The kids and adults had so much fun here. We purchased the $60 bucket and it did not disappoint. Heather was really helpful and knowledgeable and helped us identify the different minerals we found. Will definitely come back when we are in the area.

Owner was super nice and walked us through everything. Got lots of cool gems that the owner explained to us. Gave us ideas for rock polishing and if needed was able to crack geods in our pale.

A little 'gem' of a place. Kids loved it and it was enjoyable for adults . People took the time to give some history on the gems and had such patience with all of the questions. Overall a very nice experience!

They advertise as NC's #1 gem mining, that could be accurate. We opted for the $60 bucket for 3 kids to share; it did not disappoint. Lots of big rocks, fossils, emeralds, and even found a huge geode the size of a nerf football. They...More

We stopped here on our way over to Looking Glass Falls. It's a touristy gem mine but if you're geology geeks like us and have kids, it's worth a visit. There is a large gift shop and a small section where you can hand feed...More

Hello! I don't know of any NC gem mines that let you use a pick axe. Maybe Hiddenite but finds are rare. Most people there use backhoes. Good luck with the search.
