Dirt stock car NASCAR track not used for that purpose since 1969 except for old car shows. Flat walk on oval track with river views. On Mountains to the Sea Trail.

This is an excellent place to amble and chat with human or canine friends. It's a flat, one-mile loop, so people can choose how many times to go around depending on their mobility level or stamina. For people who want to get back to walking, this is a great place to start.

We took our 4 nieces for an afternoon walk. The old NASCAR track is an even grade so it made it easy for the little ones. Lots of shade which kept it cool and comfortable. There is a river you can walk over to and look for fish and birds. Easy hike and a good way to get some fresh air.

Nice flat trail to run or walk. Too secluded to be on by yourself. Not a lot of people go here because it's still a hidden gem.

The old dirt track speedway is just shy of a measured mile. The track is well maintained, well shaded, and soft to walk/run on. There are a mile or two of trails in addition to the track, as well as the old grandstands (great to run up and down a few times). The Eno river wraps around the back side of the track, so there are nice, quiet river side trails to wander. The Mountains-To-Sea trail comes through the edge of the (ample) parking area and connects with Hillsborough's River Walk, so you can easily walk downtown if you wish (or visit the speedway from downtown). In another year the Speedway trails will also connect with Ayr Mount's "Poets Walk" on the other side of the Eno river (Ayr Mount and Occoneechee Speedway are owned by the same historic preservation trust)

We took the Cub Scouts on a walk around the historic Occoneechee Speedway in mid-March. The visit was great as it gave us a chance to walk a measured distance on a shady path. The speedway is the sole surviving track from the inaugural NASCAR season (1949?) and as such it is chock full of history. The historic preservation group in charge of the site have done some wonderful things in preserving the grandstands and many of the buildings. Definitely worth the time to visit!

this is a hidden gem. the last of the nascar dirt tracks right in the backyard of nascar country. the one mile dirt oval is still maintained and makes a excellent walking trail along the eno river and track. each year they also have the track reunion. great for joggers walkers and dog walkers enjoy the outdoors while supporting history

Neat place to visit and walk the old track. Encountered several walkers getting their exercise in.
Fun to see the old cars and flag stand and think about how racing may have been back in the day.

This was a great place to explore. You can imagine what the activity was like when it was an active Speedway. The paths are easy to walk and the grandstands, ticket booth and old relics are amazing.
