Trip South

Stopped on a Tuesday and the staff, very friendly, stated that tours started each week on Thursday. They said I was more than welcome to walk the grounds and thru the gardens.

If you just want a nice drive, the 0.9 mi drive is calming and enlightening. Canoeing, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, bird watching in the raptor center, avoiding wildlife at the turtle crossing and of course the piece d' resistance, the Plantation itself! Even during the tree barren winter you could not go wrong driving the road!

We decided to spend the afternoon by visiting Latta Plantation again with an out of town visitor. We have been several times and always enjoyed the grounds and touring the house. The movie orientation was excellent. Our experience this time was uniquely enjoyable because of the outstanding services of a docent named Cliff. Cliff was amazingly knowledgeable about the plantation... More

I live nearby, when the weather is nice(winter) we bring a lunch, eat and go for a walk.several picnic tables, nice trails to walk,3 sides of the park is surrounded by mt.island lake. Very pretty.there is a nature center, canoe access, fishing access. No camping. You can tour the plantation for a small fee. The park is free.several activities. I believe it's... More

We just went for a drive and came across the sign to the Latta Plantation so thought we would visit. For our $8US (+tax) entry ticket we got to see the host and surrounding buildings, there were lots of people dressed in period costume and we got to see a war reenactment - the war where Davidson is shot through... During a weekend visit from my sisters and mom, we decided to visit Latta Plantation. The Plantation is located deep inside a nature preserve. Once you reach the Plantation you pay a small fee of $8.00 per person for a tour of the home and grounds. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and informative about the Plantation, area and customs... More

Everyone was very helpful and patient with the STEADY stream of visitors on Dec 3. This was an evening trip but I want to go back in daytime to visit the 8+ buildings I could not get to at night. It was wonderful. Ps no photos or touching stuff in the house. Watch the little kids. 😇

Great event, highly recommend. This house is part of my family history. The Sample family owned it for many years. Sample is my maiden name. I am honored to serve on the Board of Directors.

This is an interesting historic site. There are lots of animals and outbuildings. The guide was knowledgeable but the tour was a bit drawn out- 6 rooms and took an hour. There was a very sweet cat that climbed on my lap for some attention which was the highlight.

Just been here and I have to say, it was a very beautiful site to see. Although borne out of a very sad era, it's all in its original state and has a guided tour of the house. Unfortunately because of its age, there is no access to the house for the disabled site seer. The grounds have outbuilding that... More
