We enjoyed camping at the New River State Park at the Wagoner Road Access Area! In fact, it’s the nicest state park campground we’ve ever seen! But we brought our kayaks to take a short trip down the river. We unloaded the kayaks at the parking area and paddled them down to the takeout near our campsite and placed them... More

We live near the New River in Jefferson North Carolina and I grew up and my kids grew-up playing in this river. We have canoed and inner-tubed this river many times over the years and I can honestly say that I love living here.

We just visited the park area itself while on a drive from Jefferson NC to Independence VA. The park & campgrounds were very nice and after viewing the waterway maps and timetables, we have added camping & canoeing here to our list of must-do things when we return in warmer weather. Beautiful place!

We floated and paddled several times on the river while staying at New a River State Park (221 Access). The water was clear, cool and relaxing.

If you are near Jefferson, with family, you have to rent canoes at New River Outfitters General Store and take the 2-3 hour canoe trip. We go every year with family, it is so much fun! There is no hassle or waiting at this place, just walk in, have them pack you up some sodas and bologna sandwiches (only 2.50),... More

I've tubed on the New River several times, and my wife and I went this past weekend and had a great time. We used Zaloo's Canoes in Jefferson NC which is right off Hwy. 16. The water was a little lower than normal but still enough to move us along. It's very relaxing and we had a great time!

The new river is one of the best attractions in Ashe County. You can ride an inner tube down the river. This a great place to have a picnic.

We camped at the group site with 6 other families and the kids had a blast running around, fishing and hiking .The shower rooms were clean and very nice and since we camp at other NC state parks, we were pleasantly surprised that there was hand soap! The weather didn't cooperate but the park itself is beautiful , fall colors... More
