The loop trail has everything you could ask for in a day hike; breathtaking views, waterfall, big workout, restored 19th century homestead and accompanying history. We hike a lot and this one is one of the top. Agree with other reviews, it is strenuous. A wonderful day with family and our Labrador retriever.

We just took our adult children and grandchildren to Stone Mountain Park. We've always loved going here but have never tried Snow Mountain. We spent about $500 for everyone to ride for two hours. After only two or three times down the hill everyone had had enough. The lines were long and the ride was VERY rough. Too rough to... More

This park is free to visit and provides great day hiking just east of the Blue Ridge. Come early to secure a parking spot -- the lots were full when I arrived in late morning on lovely Saturday in October. The Stone Mountain Loop is definitely a "strenuous" hike. Hiking counterclockwise takes you up a very large number of stairs... More

Start at the visitors center! Good view of the mountain from the deck of the visitors center! We camped here and the campground was great with nice restrooms and even a handicapped shower! Nice trails and gorgeous waterfall! Very well maintained park!

This is a beautiful park with lots of hiking trails, some picnic areas and wonderful views. Start your tour at the Visitor's center to get a map and ask the employees the best route to see what you want. There is a small museum in the Visitor's center about the area. Plan to spend all day here and pack in... More

Wonderful trails for all ages. Magnificent waterfall at end of one trail and the view from the top of the dome is breath taking. Worth the hike.

Stone Mountain State Park is one of those little treasures tucked away in the North Carolina mountains. It offers hikes of varying lengths and degrees of difficulty, as well as nice picnic spots. On a beautiful fall Saturday, the park had many visitors. We elected a short hike to the lovely falls. Be ready for 283 steps down and 283... More

I was told about this place from my daughter-in-law who said it was awesome. She has well as us were heavily disappointed this go around. She had not been there for several years and I have drastically changed from what she remembered. The few restaurants food was below mediocre at best and well overpriced, the stores all closed early so... More

This hike sets the standard for a pleasant balance between natural features and man-made enhancements for safety, convenience and accessibility. A friend and I hiked the loop trail from the lower parking lot and were treated right away to breathtaking views of the 600-foot dome overlooking the preserved lhomestead. The hike features hundreds of wooden steps tastefully set into the... More

Stone Mountain Falls required about a 1/2 mile walk each way and several steps. On arrival to viewing site, brush had grown up blocking the view. Inside the same state park are Widows Creek Falls, which we really enjoyed. They are a short walk off the main road and include pools to wade in.
