It is a nice large tower (we only visited the bell tower). Make sure you use the tunnel to access it, not sure you can get in any other way. There is some nice descriptive history with pictures in the tower. The tower does not actually have a bell hanging inside. It does have a bell on display out on the balcony but the best we could decipher from the description it did not hang in this tower. It requires lots of stairs to access.
We had the most fun standing on the balcony watching the crazy traffic in the roundabout below.

Our hotel Xian Bell tower just across a very busy traffic ( chaotic drivers! lol ) roundabout .. its recommended to use the underground pedestrian tunnel walkways , so it was very convenient also to shopping centre but the tower itself is a splendor for its appearance and history , worthwhile to see this trip was taken in 2014, so the visit date below is wrong ( it had to be filled in )

The Tower is located in the middle of a busy boulevard with underground pedestrian access only. One can enter the subway from down there as well. The tower visit is entered by the purchase of a ticket. It is magnificent with the old bell displayed in the corner. To visit it requires a bunch of walking. This is not for the faint of heart on a hot day. But the wonderful paycheck for your efforts are the closeup views of the flowers that surround the tower. This is all world!

This is a classic tower that is well maintained. There is a very serene park at the base. I was fortunate enough to be there for the early plum blossoms this year.

Situated right in the middle of xian and walking distance from the Muslim quarter it's a great sight to visit. Good views of xian from the bell tower. In the evening when the tower gets lit it's a sight to behold.

Saw this as part of a night tour of the city (which is highly recommended to see how the locals relax).
The tower has been lovingly restored and the lighting really adds to its beauty

Went to Xi'an for couple of days to visit girlfriend and also tour around her hometown.
Went to the Drum and Bell Tower, which is located in the Southern part of the CBD, quite fascinating buildings considered to be at least over 500 years old. Xi'an is like a living history book as it had been the capital of China for many dynasties and thus you might be surprised of what this ancient city could offer.

First we went to the bell tower. What amazingly steep stairs to climb up .Have never seen anything like them.At the top you see the huge bell.Very carefully descended the stairs and over to the drum tower with similar stairs,Sat down and watched an amazing performance of drummers on huge drums.Well worth timing it right to listen to them ,the whole building vibrates with the sound.
