Fair disclaimer, I am a student and practitioner of Tibetan medicine, so I have an interest, but even so it is well worth your time to visit if you are in Xining. This was my third visit to the museum and I always find it fascinating. The displays of Tibetan culture and lifestyle are interesting if small. But the Tibetan... More

There are several different exhibits that are all pretty cool and well done and interesting, especially if you have a Tibetan friend or guide who can explain what everything means (not a whole lot in English other than the main intros, which actually are pretty good). The main highlight and really one of the top must-see things in all of... More

The top floor is where the Thangka is and was very interesting to see! 1st floor is all about Tibetan medicine and the basement goes over Tibetan culture. Would definitely recommend coming here if you are in Xining.

Around 20 minutes by taxi from Xining or get on bus no.1 from West Gate (西门) will take around 45 minutes. The museum is free but on the ticket booth before you enter the building they'll ask you if you want to see the thangka and they charge 60元 beforehand. so if you're a student bring your student passport and... Tibetan Medical Museum resides 6 kilometers from the center of Xining city. It is the largest Thangka project i have ever seen, which has a 618 meters long. The Thangka is about Tibetan history and buddhism evolved since Tibet kingdom. Very Interesting!

Museum of China Tibetan Medicine Culture is destination #1 in Xining. Around 20 minutes from city center by taxi, but it worth it. In Museum I've seen the biggest tangha in the world. I wonder if it is the longest masterpiece of art in the world? Amazing place, a lot of interesting and stunning items. In contrast with Tibetan Museum... More

The place was well laid out and easy to navigate and lots of artifacts on Tibetan medicine, culture and history. All the exhibits were labeled so you actually know what it is you were looking at. The giant thangka on the second floor is ridiculously detailed and beautiful, so much on it I could've been there all day. Unfortunately you... More

As a health professional I found much of the museum interesting - the history of the Tibetan medicine, types of operation, surgical instruments from 800AD and varieties of substances used for medicinal purposes. The huge Thanka was also impressive. However few of the signs are in English, there is a 60 yuan charge to see the Thanka and it takes... More

This museum is incredible. WE are so pleased to have been able to see it. Allow at least half a day. It contains the biggest Thanka in the world 618mlong by 2.5m high--amazing. It chronicles the history of Tibet. The other relics on display cover all aspects of life and religion n Tibet and I especially enjoyed the medical displays...stunning.
