Do take a trip to see the amazing and elaborate sand rock formations, rising 636 feet above the Elbe River, and the bridge across some of the jagged rocks, called Bastei. You drive up to the place where the stairway begins down to the bridge. Here you will find gift shops, cafes, and even a hotel. My husband and I... More

The towering limestone outcrops at Bastei are definitely worth a visit. They are beautiful to look at, but also provide a great vantage point, 100 metres, above the Elbe river, to view the surrounding countryside. Well worth a visit. Best to get there early in the morning before the coach loads of tourists.

It was fun walking the narrow paths to the Bastei Rock formations with spectacular views of the Elbe River. Unfortunately is was rainy and foggy during our visit

This is one of the key points when coming to Saxony. Some basic advice: - watch out for the crowd, we in November so it was not so bad - have good hiking shoes - go first to the castle in the rocks (just behind the Bastei Bridge) - there is a nice view - a kind of appetizer just... More

This is probably one of the most popular hikes in the area, and therefore very crowded. A lot of people come by car or bus and just do the short walk to the bridge. The true beauty of the place is better experienced by hiking up to the bridge and back down again. You can loop around to avoid backtracking.... More

The sights were spectacular from that altitude but why anyone would want to build a castle there escapes me. If you're not afraid of heights, then take the tour you won't be disappointed. You have a great view of the Elbe and the valley. The rock formations are something to behold.

An amazing collection of rock formations overlooking the River Elbe. It has many similarities to the Lorely overlooking the River Rhine.

A wonder of nature. Once you get up there you will have an absolute marvelous view of the river Elbe that winds along far beneath you. The whole place is absolutely gorgeous with an old ruin of a stronghold and a great bridge that will take you across. How anyone could even consider living up here is a wonder in... More
