David our tour guide was very knowledgable and at times amusing. Interesting tour of the history of this jail and then Lunatic Asylum for the Criminally Insane. Highly recommend this tour.

A very interesting tour. We couldn't believe the conditions inmates were subjected to, especially given this complex shut in 1993. The volunteer guides are very friendly and knowledgeable. There is enough to keep teenagers interested, and on edge (especially the underground kitchen). Thanks to our...More

J Ward tour was very informative. We divided to take the tour last minute. Very interest and opened our eyes to the treatment of the criminally insane during the 20 century. Well worth the visit.

A visit to nearby Ararat from The Grampians and so worth the visit to J Ward. The guide was very knowledgeable. The tour lasted over an hour. Make a visit part of your itinerary (not the children though).

We went on the 11:00 Wednesday tour 1 1/2 hours it was fascinating to see inside a real lunatic ward that was previously a jail. The tour guide was knowledgeable and humorous. I can recommend this great tour.

Hey Ozee, They are about 10m drive from one another. You should allow about 1-2 hrs for J Ward and 3-4 hours for Aradale. you can get tickets from the Information Center in town and they will provide a map.
