Whitewater Falls is a must see in western NC. It was represented to me that the movie "The Last Of The Mohigans " was filmed at the Falls. It is a very short hike to the Falls from the parking area.

This is one challenging hike that you should not miss. It's up and down and all around a few hill's. When you reach the falls, it makes it worth it.

The best waterfall I've seen in the Eastern US. Absolutely stunning and it's only a short drive from the beautiful town of Highland, NC.

Beautiful falls, but you can't take the stairs down to see the falls up close because they are now under repair. Technically, the whole park is closed.

USDA Forest Service still lists Whitewater Falls as closed. Is it open or did you walk around the barricade to an area not normally open to the public?

The stairs at Upper Whitewater Falls were destroyed during the wild fires. I believe it will be a long time before this area will be reopened.
