Very quiet setting! Feels far from any kind of human activity. It's impressive to see such a large forest. There's a little babbling brook running through the forest, and you'll see lots of mountain laurel trees near the creek. To our surprise, we did not...More

One of the few public lands you can drive a full-size vehicle in. Maybe the only one in NC (that's public land). Several different obstacles, almost all of which have a by-pass or at least an easier route except for "Daniel". There are many different...More

My review is only for the Dutchman's Creek / Uwharrie National Trail loop. I parked at the trail head at 24-27. It is a nice trail head with good map at the kiosk, clear directions. This hike was end of October 2017. I went out...More

Came with a friend for Labor Day weekend. We were astonished at how few people were there, we thought it'd be busy for the holiday weekend. There was only one other group staying at our site. The trails are well marked as long as you're...More

Get there early enough and you can get a "first come, first serve" site. If not there's plenty of places along the road to stop. They will have fire rings and a place to put a tent. I went with my 4&5 year old and...More

This used to be a great place to go for hiking, fishing and many other outdoor activities, however on this visit it looked like the place had been used for a trash dump in areas. It appeared that people camped in different spots and when...More

Now, if you are looking for a "Carowinds" type experience, please don't waste your time in the Uwharries; you'll be disappointed. If you're looking for bright lights and a wide variety of exotic eateries, you'd be better off to keep on traveling. But if you...More

If you want to rest and relax, this is the place. It does not cost a thing to hike, fish or paddle. You can even camp (out in the forest) for free. If you prefer to comfort camp the campgrounds are a bargin!

Thank you for the responses. It looks kind of how we anticipated. We will just take more than we think and look to fill up when we can. We do plan to do the figure 8 path.
