Walking to the lighthouse is outstanding. The price is unchanged from prior years, C$5. The views are amazing and we had few people to contend with once we made the trek. We went just as visitors were allowed with the tide going out. You might want to wait a bit so that the path is completely above water. We drenched our shoes walking across the rocks. In the past, rocks were marked to indicate the best way to navigate through them. It’d be helpful to have it done again.

I’d definitely recommend good shoes! We saw a number of people struggling over the rocks in flip flops.

At low tide you can pay a fee to the attendant, go down some metal stairs, and walk across a mucky area to the small island where the lighthouse sits. We arrived late afternoon as low tide was ending and saw a couple walking back across, and the attendant was closing up her kiosk since no one else could walk across that day. It is free of charge to park and take photos without walking across to the lighthouse island. Just a gorgeous spot.

I admit it. I love to see lighthouses and the coast they are guarding. I have dragged my poor husband along many a winding road some unpaved "just" to see a lighthouse. We have been visiting Newfoundland, Canada for over twenty years and have visited many lighthouses along its rugged coast. Since the pandemic, we decided to vacation closer to home and went back to our original love, Maine. Last spring we visited West Quoddy Lighthouse, older sister to Head Harbour or East Quoddy Lighthouse. This year we visited East Quoddy Lighthouse. Head Harbour Lighthouse was built in 1829 on a small rocky islet located off the tip of Campobello Island, NB to help ships in the area navigate the famous Bay of Fundy fog and high tides and the treacherous rocks surrounding the island. It is a large white octagonal tower with the red cross of Saint George painted on its east side. It is the first lighthouse constructed in NB outside of Saint John Harbour and is the oldest surviving lighthouse in NB. To get to the lighthouse, follow lighthouse road which ends in a parking lot. If you walk a short distance you can get a distant view of the lighthouse which is accessible only by foot at low tide. You cross a gravel bar (the ocean bottom) then ascend metal steps and a ladder. I could see all that from my viewpoint but we did not attempt the crossing. At least we saw it in the distance and we were in Canada once again!

We arrived 3o mins before high tide so we were not allowed to access the "causeway" and the islands for safety sake. Beautiful views.

The East Quoddy Lighthouse is a fun lighthouse to photograph ... whether it's sunny or foggy; tide in or tide out ... and we've photographed it from different vantage points! It has a lot of character; just wish our timing was such to go on a guided walk out to the island; although part of the walk out there looks "challenging".
We've visited in July 2017 and Oct 2019. Don't miss this when you're touring Campobello Island!

East Quoddy Lighthouse, interesting sight, only accessable at low tide. Would have been better coordinated with the tide...

Couldn't have asked for a better experience here. After going on the tour of the lighthouse and property, "Friends of the Lighthouse", a group dedicated to preservation of Head Harbor Lighthouse and others, served a lunch to visitors. It was so welcoming and inviting, they made everyone feel like family. With spectacular views and a cool ocean breeze, the trek into the low tide ocean floor was also very cool. Be sure to go at the right time, as tides move in quickly and are some of the highest in the world. Although I visited alone, I would highly recommend for families and visitors of all ages!
