Great campground! Very clean and tidy and very reasonably priced!!! Camping lots are private and gives one the feeling of camping in the wilderness with the added bonus of having great washrooms and showers to be take advantage of. The only down fall for RV campers is there is no water or electric hook up available. There are water stations through out just not per site. A great back to nature camping experience :)

While not too far from the city, for those who are camping from outside of St. John's, it's likely a great place to setup shop, close enough to the city to make it with the drive to do some city stuff... and then back to the country. For those from St. John's... looking to escape and find things to do, it's not over the top. It's a good campground but not too much else to do nearby like some of the other parks I've frequented.
Nice little beach... good bathrooms and showers (though my wife wasn't a fan of the women's side)... camp sites were clean and spacious. We had a couple of incidents with some other loud campers late at night in which we would have appreciated the camp ground supervisors to take care of but they usually just ignored it and drove by.

This park is located off the Trans Canada Highway at exit 38. It's quite large; the comfort station was quite far away so we had to hop in the car to get there. There was a pit toilet close to our campsite, though. We booked in advance as this park seems to be really full once school is out for the summer. Recycling and garbage receptacles were provided at each site. Unfortunately it poured rain while we were there, and our site became somewhat of a swamp! We were told that the hike to Butter Pot Hill is beautiful, but the weather didn't cooperate so we didn't get to do the walk. Guess that means we'll have to come back!

There are really nice sites in the campground. They are wooded, very private, can't see neighbor through the trees. To get to the campsites, the park access road is long and very bumpy. Our site was as far out as you could get. Campground is family oriented and quiet. Staff was average. I find it strange that provincial campgrounds in Newfoundland don't provide the essential information upon check-in. Map of campground, where the comfort station is, etc. You have to ask for the info. This campground had the overused, understaffed feeling to it. Bathrooms are cleaned, but not as often as they could be. Only two comfort stations, and we were a good 5 minute walk down hill to the closest one. (Site 151). The nicer comfort station was near site 61. A good 15 -20 minute walk. When we arrived, our site had not been cleaned, we had to ask the staff to pick up garbage out of fireplace and recycling etc. They did promptly and were sincerely disturbed by the fact it wasn't done. We picked this campground to be close to St. John's. We had great access to the major routes leading to St. John's and the costal routes. We easily accessed Petty Harbour, Bay Bull and easy drive to Cape Spears and Signal Hill. If I return to St. John's, I would consider staying here again, however would be more 'picky' about the location of my site, as this is a widely spread out campground. I might first check out Pippy Park, which seem to be closer to St. John's and offer more services. I knew going in the sites were without hydro, and with the cold this July, I missed having electrical hook-up to plug in a heater. But that is not the parks fault.

Wow..quiet hour starts at 11 pm! Generator running constantly loud music guy next to us using f word every other word looks like people set up shop here all summer long. Not at all what I would expect from a Provincial camp ground. They are usually wonderful

My partner and I spent 2 nights at this park. We slept in a tent, and found our site to be suited for this! While it wasn’t a traditional tent site, so the ground was a little rocky. We threw a fleece blanket on the floor to make it softer and it was fine! We loved having our own fire pit, and plenty of privacy. One thing to note, whilst firewood can be purchased at the park it is by CASH ONLY! (And there are no atm’s) it was $10 for a bundle of birch wood which burned beautifully!

What an amazing and interesting camp site for trailer and tent alike. Everyone has their own very privet wild setting plot.

Pitched a tent in site 65! Must have been a tent for an Rv because it was huge, too open for a tent (our fault for booking that way, not the parks) but we were very close to the bathrooms so that was a plus!
Bathrooms were clean. The park is huge!
One issue would be that there is no convince store at the park and the nearest one is in Holyrood 10 mins away on the highway. Not too fair so it's manageable if you need anything.

This park is a place of beauty.. Lots of nature around you , quiet/ peaceful, trails to walk, lovely swimming area, clean camp sites and comfort stations. Near the town of Holyrood, 25 minutes for St. John's if your visiting the province.
A weekend getaway for families needing relaxation.

Have camped at several Prov Parks and found this one not be on par with say one like Cheeseman near Port aux Basque. The park staff were quite good. The sites need some dressing up with grass cut etc.

Campfires were permitted when we were there (end of June 2017), and each site had a fire pit.

Is the water temperature okay for swimming at the day use beach?
Written 29 August 2015
Yeah, definitely. It is a bit cool in the morning, but being freshwater in a closed albeit large pond, it does heat up enough to be tolerable and even pleasant after about noon!
