This is a beautiful working lighthouse. Our guide that day was very friendly and gave us a real in-depth look into the life of the lighthouse keepers. We were then guided up the the top to see the light. We were very lucky to see some whales pass as we were there late in the season. After the tour we... More

Retells the life and times of lighthouse keepers very well and the guided climb to the top is not to be missed. Our guide told an interesting tale as we made our way to the light which is now maintained by the Canadian Coastguard.

We arrived at the lighthouse on a foggy day in the rain. We climbed to the top of the lighthouse and, although we could not see much through the fog, it was an exciting experience. We were told that you must climb the steps with a guide in groups of eight but they allowed our small group of nine to... More

We had a great afternoon at the Point Amour Lighthouse. We enjoyed the museum artifacts and the tour. A very detailed scale model outlined the construction of the lighthouse and our trip to the top gave us a greater appreciation. The view from the top was outstanding and we were able to watch humpback whales playing and gannets slicing into... More

After a short drive from the ferry terminal in Blanc Sablon, we were happy to stretch our legs again at Point Amour lighthouse. We arrived just minutes before a guided walk to the shipwreck, HMS Raleigh, to commemorate the anniversary of the shipwreck was to begin. The admission to the site was free on the day we visited, because of... More

Beautiful lighthouse with the lightkeeper's house containing original and period furnishings to provide insight into their life. In addition to the very high quality and interesting displays, and the beauty of the light itself, there is additionally a lot of information about its role in the rescue of the crew of a British warship in the 1920's that wrecked off... We were travelling back to L'Anse aux Clair from Red Bay at dusk on a Friday evening, and assumed the lighthouse was closed, but we wanted to see it anyway. While travelling out the road several vehicles passed us, so we assumed this was also the Friday night "party spot" for the locals. We were surprised to see a full... More

We stopped here several times during the past years, but now the addition of a cafe & B and B tend to make this place a must see and do.

The weather was superb the day of the visit. The admission is nominal for the guided tour and climb to a fantastic view. Very scenic and historical. One of the most significant lighthouses in Newfoundland/Labrador.

Thank Dan Q
