our son loves animals of all sorts, so we made it a point to stop here while visiting from a neighboring town - variety of birds

Very disappointed to find the sanctuary closed. Poor signs, no indication of hours were posted. There were some interesting facts about Jack Minor posted on a fence. We felt like intruders. A disappointment, as we had fond memories from our childhood.

Birds are there all year but the Canadian geese organize to head south in the fall. Fenced area has various unique birds. A lot of free parking available. Donation is optional. Short visit.

IF you are in this part of Ontario (one hour from Detroit Michigan and Windsor Ontario) and love Canada Geese and can spare the time visiting Jack Miner's world famous (established in 1904) Bird Sanctuary is a do-not-miss experience. Timing IS everything. The true prime time to visit is during the active migration season of the Canada Geese which is... More

I had planned a day trip to go do number of different things in the area, and this was one of them. This was not at all what I was expecting, but didn't really know what was going to await us when we got there. Basically it's just a huge pond, where I guess during the right season there are... go during migration season as there are more birds there. It is real fun when they drive a truck in the field and all the geese fly and the sky is full of birds.

Visited here off season. Arrived and was greeted by one staff member who informed us that the stancuary was open but house tour was closed; however, she invited us (Mother and myself) in for a personal tour. Very friendly and knew a lot about the history of the Miner family and told us some fascinating stories!! We will return again... More

This is a historical spot that I love in Essex county. If you go in the fall, you will see hundreds and hundreds of the Canadian geese that stop for a rest here every year.
