Been here a couple of times, I have brought the grandchildren, we learned a lot of history and how to make native jewellery. I've been to the archive section to do the Family Tree. The people are very helpful, pleasant.

Great for a family looking for a rainy day activity, beautiful outdoor area as well as interesting and engaging indoor exhibits. A must see if you are in the area.

I have made annual trips to do family history research in Bruce County for many years. The local genealogy and historical societies make it easy, as they have a great number local resources and many of them are indexed. The archives space is in the top floor of the museum and is open and bright. The staff are very knowledgeable... More

Wanted to know things about friends from the past in Port Elgin. Had visited PE when I was a little boy and really liked our family/friends that I met. I found a street named after the family(Bieners) so when I heard that there was a museum in Southhampton(just outside of Port Elgin) we went for a visit. Found out that... More

There is more to the museum than just a visit to see all on display, although that is quite interesting as well. If you notify them in advance, you can set up a time for someone in the archives (thank you, Sue) to devote their time to helping you research historical family documents such as land titles, obituaries and newspaper... The kids always look forward to a rainy day at the cottage because it means we get to visit the museum. They love the interactive exhibits and I love that my Annual Membership to the Waterloo Regional Museum gets us in for free.

We were there for about 45 minutes to an hour and felt like we saw everything. However, I think it would be nice outing for the kids as there were a few hands-on activities for the kids. There were nice students who demonstrated some of the exhibits (such as firing the canon on a ship).

Stopped by the museum this past weekend. I wasn't expecting such a gem. The museum is well laid out and flows easily. Although I was not there with children, it is very child friendly. There are of course artifacts protected in glass cabinets and cases however the majority of the museum is touch friendly. There is a large replica of... More

Worth checking this place out! Wonderful archives department, friendly staff as well. Brought the kids there while on vacation to see the exhibits and catch the reptile show. Wonderful! Very child friendly!
