Pleasant boat trip. Nice shopping. Look for the winding road to get to the top without the hundreds of steps.

We went in the morning and it was pretty quiet and we were able to enjoy a slow amble up the hill. We were rewarded with spectacular views and a nice cold beer. I can only imagine this place during a fiesta time !

What an amazing place! Full of shops with souvenirs and food. We enjoyed the climb up to the top of the island!! A little treacherous but the hike up was well worth it!

Do it! Take the boat to the island and wander the small streets - you can't get lost - and the beauty everywhere from the lake vistas to the small shops offering hand made artifacts made on the island as well as beautiful local embroideries.

I've visited several times and each year it has become more polluted over the years. Both the island and the dock are filled with vendors who will harass you as well.

I would recommend staying in Patzcuaro where there are so many hotel options. The ferry to the island takes only 15 to 20 minutes each way. In Patzcuaro we stayed at the Casa de Naranjo which is right on the Plaza - but... More
