We saw loads of turtles, didn't get hassled at all and had a fab breakfast after snorkelling - all in all, a perfect morning! We got the colectivo there from Tulum (35peso p/p) and headed straight to Akumal Dive Shop (not Akumal Dive Center), arriving...More

I have been going to Akumal to snorkle with the turtles for 13 years. Over the years it has developed so much that it has taken some of the joy out of the place. Tour operators are super aggressive and lie all the time. They...More

We heard bad things about this beach - crowded, you get hassled a lot, etc. We arrived about 8am, and pretty much had the place to ourselves. We swam around for about 90 minutes, and saw plenty of turtles. It was getting a bit busy...More

On our first day, we got suckered into buying a guided tour. It is NOT necessary. The tours are not allowed to solicit inside on the beach. However, "they" have "operatives" on the beach and in the water. The turtles were a 5, but the...More

Nice beach, lots of people around. There are two dive shops where you can access snorkel and scuba gear and plenty of eager fisherman to take you out fishing if that is what you are into.

We went to snorkel on a Monday and was told only beachfront hotel guests could snorkel that day. We went back on Weds. But solo snorkeling was limited inside a certain area with no real views

Must go to this beach to snorkel with the sea turtles. You can easily spend the day there. There's a nice restaurant and bar right on the beach where you can relax and then go back out snorkeling.

Where does the snorkle boat take up? Will it take us beyond the reef? We stay at Akumal bay resort so we have snorkled every day and saw turtles already. Thanks for your info.

You should also try Half Moon Bay. You can walk there and go in at the La Buena Vida and then have a drink or bite to eat when you're done. You can also see if the boat will take you farther north to a couple of spots we... More

Yes it is. Go early in the day to avoid all the tours for turtle watching to get the best water conditions.
