Soar above a breathtaking landscape, sculpted over time, decorated by nature and enjoyed by generations.Stand on top of Dunstable Downs for a view that will simply take your breath away. These Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) are designated for the quality of their chalk grasslands. As well as two Scheduled Ancient Monuments (Five Knolls and Medieval Rabbit Warrens) there are many other historical features and the site has much to offer you.The chalk grasslands of the Downs have miles of footpaths and several circular walks, a fascinating history and an abundance of plants and wildlife.Dunstable Downs is within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the highest point in Bedfordshire. The wind-swept ridge provides ideal conditions for a variety of air sports, especially kite flying. On calmer days it's the ideal site to enjoy the view and a picnic. Please note: Chilterns Gateway Centre is owned by Central Bedfordshire Council and managed by the National Trust.

Always looking for something to do and stretch the legs when we visit our son in Luton and this just what we wanted. Lots of great walks and the views are stunning. The NT shop and cafe is lovely and we enjoyed a great scone and tea outside with our dog. Would recommend

Had a very enjoyable walk along the tops, fantastic views, and watching the gliders was good. Nice shop and lovely cafe to have a cupa, to warm up. Worth a visit for the views.

A great place to walk, ramble, fly your kite all of those things and you can have a cuppa or a meal too. The view is great as you watch the hand gliders and planes . Even if you're driving through to Dunstable.

This is L&D's top attraction in my opinion. Vast piece of green land with pretty amazing views. Perfect for running. A famous spot for Paragliding, you can spot few in summer. Very interesting place! Good for picnics too!

Been going here since I was a child. It's a lovely place to walk and watch the gliders. With the addition of the visitors centre you can grab a hot drink and something to eat. There is a good selection of food, as well as unique gifts. Great day out for all ages, just don't forget the £2 parking charge!... More

The views across the Chilterns are stunning. On a clear evening the sunsets can be exceptional also. Apart from the beautiful scenery it is a great place to watch the gliders take off and land as well as an ideal spot for a variety of walks. It is also an excellent location for children to play and picnic. The Visitors... More
