First time at Workington to watch the Speedway as a distance from where we live, but for us it was definitely worth the 2hr drive. Although the venue is a little tired, the welcome, the professionalism from staff and the organisation throughout the evening was fantastic. We had a wonderful night with exciting viewing of both Workington Comets V Ipswich providing an awesome battle........absolutely worth a visit. Loved it!

If you have never been to watch Speedway you really must make the effort to go, it's an excellent night out for singles & families alike. I have been going longer than I care to admit, seen all the up's & down's, gutted when the late Ian Thomas left but Laura Morgan is so committed please go along & offer your support.

As a sport, speedway - certainly in Britain - is struggling badly. Crowds for Workington matches, as everywhere else, are in serious decline. That said, we certainly picked an entertaining meeting to drop in on to complete a sporting day trip to Cumbria. The racing was decent, the outcome undecided until the last race and Comets scored a shock win over league leaders Glasgow. Went down well with the enthusiastic locals. Derwent Park, owned by Workington Town Rugby League Football Club, isn't a particularly salubrious stadium, but that can be said for most British speedway venues. You have the choice to stand or sit. Best view is from the (standing) terrace above the first and second bends. Food and drink available, though I sampled neither. Admission price a little on the steep side, I felt. However, my companion, who had not watched speedway since the Seventies, the sport's last golden era in Britain, really enjoyed the experience.

Workington speedway - The home of Workington Comets. A great night of entertainment to be had on race nights.
This year the promoters have put together a great team. At number one we have the top point scorer in the
League in Craig Cook. Craig has also been chosen to captain the England squad. There is now hot meals available in the Blue and White cafe as well as the burger van. There are 15 heats of speedway in the meeting and most weeks there is a junior match too. The season runs from end of March to October on a Saturday night. Consult Workington Speedway official web site for details.
