Stopped by for a walk quite by chance. Area bit muddy today after heavy rain but this did not detract from the lovely picturesque walks available, whether through the copse, along the canal or following the pathways, and plenty of water birds and native species to see. Nice little cafe on site for a quick cupcakes at the end of... More

Moira Furnace is the jewell in Moira's crown, a lovely setting for a walk or scooter ride, pleasant surroundings, a few little shops and plenty of parking. Ideal place to let the kids play and run while enjoying a picnic and chat with friends. Then if you really want to push the boat out you can visit Lake Side for... More

We go to the furnace to take our dogs along the canal path and then down over the fields. It's a great place when the weather has been dry for me and my wheelchair. Because the path is just wide enough for the chair and the dogs it is one of the few places locally we can all go when... More

Interesting place. Children will like feeling free to move around here. Small site but ample enough to see.

excellent location for some really local history. The exhibition rooms are brilliant and the surrounding area is lovely for long walks by the canal or through the woods.

Good place for walks and for general interest in old workings including a canal. Play area is suitable for younger children. Nice cafe also there.

Considering when this was built, it was (and still is) an impressive building. It was a short-lived experience as due to bad luck and management it was soon found to be surplus to requirements. What remains is an impressive three-storey building which must have been a colossus in its day. It is an ideal picnic spot and there is a... More

Visited on 4 October should have read before as museum/ boat trips/ shops and cafe were all closed, maybe there's a bit more activity at the weekends during the 'winter period' but in fairness it does say open March to 30th Sept. Still - nice surroundings and lovely walks beside the canal and through the woodland. We will visit again... More

Nice place, back to nature with loads of paths by the canal or in the woods. Free entrance and car parking so it is very popular with dog walkers. Boat trips are available and you can see the wildlife on the canal. Fishing permits are also available and they say there is loads of fish in there. The ones fishing were... More
