Had my granddaughters christening at this beautiful church during Sunday service. The church is spectacular inside and we were made very welcome. The congregation were really friendly

What a wonderful church!! So much to explore inside! We used the trail guide (adult and child versions) so as not to miss anything. Totally fascinating and well worth a visit to discover hidden treasures from the past!!

The exterior of this church is magnificent, with a tower so strong and erect, and delicate, ornate carvings in the stonework. Sadly, I can't review the interior as it wasn't open.

Whilst this picture is not St Mary's in Wirksworth let me say that the steady Parish Church is possesses outstanding character and heritage. Arguably the oldest site of Christian worship in Derbyshire and possibly further afield than the county . Every year I come to the Wirksworth Festival .In 2016 it starts on the 10th September. and marks the patronal... More

We visited Wirksworth on a rainy afternoon and discovered the Church while wandering about. It is a beauty - lots of really surprising and interesting things to see as well as feeling like a very spiritual place. Lovely.

Be sure to visit in September when the quaint rite of Clypping is held when all the members of the congregation encircle the church exterior and form an unbroken chain by holding hands.

There are plenty of features to this church which are of interest and anyone in the area should pay it a visit. I knew nothing about it before we entered and I have to say that I was taken aback by several very pleasant surprises so in order to not give any spoilers I'll end my review just like this!

A church which really surprises you by the sheer size of it inside. There are lots of things of interest and a plan helps you find them. I was especially impressed by the carved stone 7th-century Anglo-Saxon coffin lid - over 1300 years old. But there are also some very elaborate tombs here too.

This church has features dating from saxons times. Well worth a look inside for an interesting historical journey. Well worth a walk round this old part of Wirksworth. On the square around the church are also the old alms houses and the old grammar school. Many more historical houses and buildings can be found in the surrounding lanes and alleys.
