Home to the largest single collection of free flying birds in Australia (some 500 of them!), Birdworld Kuranda in the Australian highlands of the Atherton Tablelands displays no less than 75 species of the most spectacular birds from all corners of the planet - as well as from the earth’s fast diminishing rainforests.Visitors are free to wander through the lush, tropically landscaped bird sanctuary to observe the birds in their own specific - yet natural - habitats. Two lakes connected by a tumbling waterfall for example are home to waterbirds such as stilts, herons and Australia’s own unique Black Swan. In Birdworld's rainforest canopy overhead, blue, gold and scarlet Macaws dazzle with colourful brilliance as they soar above the tree tops. One outstanding Birdworld denizen not to be missed is that rare avian giant, the Cassowary - an Australian bird now officially enlisted as endangered.Designed to "create a centre where birds would be showcased in their natural environment without the barriers of cages coming between them and their admiring public", Birdworld Kuranda is a photographer's paradise. (And without those barriers, visitors often find a feathered friend nestling on their shoulder - a golden photo opportunity!) Birdworld Kuranda can provide guided tours for all group bookings.

I really like birds and this had loads of beautiful colour parrots. You can touch the birds and they might land in you. Some birds are cheeky so watch your handbags and cameras. The venue is very small so not much walking required. Only takes...More

Unless you suffer from bird-phobia and will freak out if one lands on your head, you're gonna have a ball in Birdworld. Lots of friendly and beautiful birds.

As ardent bird-lovers, my wife and I got onto a courtesy bus and made a bee-line to Birdworld Kuranda when we reached Kuranda by rail on Friday 28th July 2017. When we bought our entrance tickets, alas, the last packet of bird-feed was bought by...More

Thanks so much for your comments and glad you ended up with some bird feed after all. The staff generally repack the bird feed for the afternoon so not sure what happened there. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your Kuranda adventure.

Paid at Birdworld also to see Koala Gardens as you get a discount when you do. These places are very close together so very convenient. Good value for money. Lots of beautifully coloured birds. And two cassowaries that we saw. You can feed the birds...More

Thanks for your great feedback and delighted that you felt both our attractions were good value for money. Yes, we are at that stage where we do need to look at having an extra 'floater' to assist so your comments are very constructive and will...More

If you enjoy interacting with birds, buy a bag of food for handfeeding; from exotics to our brightly coloured parrots there are birds to please everyone. In case you don’t spot a Cassowary on your trip to the Daintree then there are 2 on view...More

If you like birds, you will love spending an hour or so here. They have many different kinds of birds in an aviary that is clean, well maintained, and just enjoyable to spend time in.

Loved this place. You can feed the birds and if you do, you might get one who hitches a ride on your shoulder as you tour the other sections of the park (that is what happened to us). Lovely big green parrots, macaws and Australian...More

So pleased you enjoyed Monique. Always a good tip to take off the bling and put it in your purse or pocket where they can't find it and then enjoy!

If tickets weren't included we wouldn't have gone. Maybe we just aren't that into birds, if you like birds you might enjoy this more than we did

Thanks Kim. Well it is called Birdworld because it is nothing but birds and yes, it is an attraction for people who love birds. Not much good for people who are not prepared to put the effort into interacting with them.

Travelling with a two year old, we were looking things to do with her. We had a wonderful time at Birdworld, where we had numerous species landing on or near us our entire visit. Our daughter had a spectacular time feeding the birds, and trying...More

Thanks so much Amy for your great insights and tips. If you think about it, being inquisitive and sampling things through nibbling and taste is how birds learned to adapt, survive and evolve over millions of years. It is a natural instinct that they continue...More

Basically a big aviary with parrots flying around. Kind of a short stroll, but most of the birds are friendly and you can buy a bag of treats and feed them. Was able to hold a green cheek conure, alexandrine, sun conure, eclectus parrot, and...More
