The Museum of Ceramics, which is operated by the Museum of Ceramics...

The Museum of Ceramics, which is operated by the Museum of Ceramics Foundation and the Ohio History Connection, houses an extensive collection of the wares produced in the city long known as "America's Crockery City" and "The Pottery Capitol of the Nation." Enjoy a 12-minute movie about the Ohio valley pottery industry, then explore 2 floors of exhibits, including life-size dioramas of people working in the potteries. We also have Civil War artifacts, two dozen paintings by New Deal era artist Roland Schweinsburg, scavenger hunts and electronic games for children, pottery classes, a giant 19th century potter's wheel that you can operate, a library of historic documents relating to the American pottery industry, and the largest public collection of Lotus Ware porcelain. The museum is on the National Register of Historic Places.

This museum is full of rare pieces of china from England and the United States. There is an informative video presentation before you begin to explore. There is a recreation of what a turn of the century pottery looked like, and they don't shy away from admitting that children were a part of the early labor force. Though most children... More

The director and staff gave us great insight into ceramics as an industry (there were hundreds of ceramic "factories" in East Liverpool) and as a sign of status and beauty. The town still produces more ceramics than any place else in the usa; two examples, Hall and Homer Laughlin ceramics (fiesta ware) The Hall factory outlet has a great "seconds"... More

We toured this museum having "little expectation". WOW! We left filled with a rich deep history of a community and region that influence much of the nation with it's pottery. You also learned what happens when a city is a one industry town, and the industry falters. Great place to spend a couple of hours

Her husband Jeff is also knowledgeable and has a fantastic wooden toy collection and be sure to ask to see his mustache cup collection. This museum made the... More

Hello! So glad we were able to welcome you and your two traveling companions to this great old former post office, and that your visit coincided with the temporary display of Jeff's fun mechanical wooden toys. Thank you for your nice review, and here's hoping you and your friends will visit again some day soon! More

This museum is a must-see in E. Liverpool, OH. The pieces are excellent and the story of the local area as it relates to pottery is very interesting and very well represented. The gift shop carries a few items, all of high quality. A wonderful experience!
