Founded in 1973, Gahanna Woods State Nature Preserve is a successful effort to save one of the last remaining large stands of woods in central Ohio. The preserve is both a nature lover and bird watcher’s dream, with rare species of vegetation, including some of Ohio’s most exceptional wildflowers, and rarely-seen wildlife. Consisting of more than 50 acres, the preserve offers plenty of scenic hiking trails and areas for picnicking.

Lovely place to run or walk

Lovely small park. Very quiet and well maintained. Great for spring wild flowers and birds. Some trails are stones or paved, others not. Great for a walk or run.

There's miles of walking and woods. Be careful on rainy days. Wear bug spray and enjoy nature! It's worth a visit.

Great scenery at this park. You can make a 5 mile loop around the lake. Very tranquil and relaxing. A good spot to just get away.

Only a mile from my home, Gahanna Woods is a great natural and uncrowded place. Gahanna Parks and Recreation adds new trails every year while maintaining existing ones. You can run or walk for miles with birds, deer and not many people. A state nature preserve shares the parking lot and offers a boardwalk and rooted trail through a wetlands... More

Gahanna Woods is actually 2 parks in one because the east side is a wetlands preserve and the west side is a walking park. Both sides may be hiked but bikes, dogs and other domesticated animals are not permitted on the wetlands preserve because they would disturb the natural habitat. The west side has nice trails for walking and walking... More

This park is close to where I live so easy to get to. Once inside this park, you don't feel close housing and roads, though sometimes you can see houses in the distance. This park is quite quiet, though getting more popular, The pathways have been extended, and a dog path added. If you want a short walk, take just... More

This is one of my favorite walking and running trails in Gahanna. There is plenty of shade on hot days, and running on pine needle mulch is like a magic carpet. You will rarely see anyone else on these trails. The state nature preserve on the south side of the parking lot is even more beautiful, but jumping over roots... More

I visited Gahanna Woods Nature Preserve for the first time today. On a Saturday morning I saw 1 person with the exception of my running partner. The preserve is a pleasant, quiet running location with very nice trails padded with wood chips, grass, boardwalks, or rubberized tiles depending on the section. Foliage is maintained almost as a tunnel along the... More

I have found that all the parks and nature preserves in and around Columbus are great. The weather was great to enjoy all outdoor activities while we were there

There are two parks here... Gahanna Woods & a state nature preserve. We live nearby, & go there to walk or run frequently. Because of the shade the trails here are really a great place to log a few miles on a hot day. The paths work their way back & around between the two parks & make it easy... More
