A nice monastery which houses scores of ancient Budhist scripts brought by Tibetan monks for their Great Lord Shri Padmasambhaba.

Morgan House is situated in the Army area and the road in front of the hotel goes straight to Durpin Dara where the Durpin Monastry is situated...you can walk down ....the road is very clean, well maintained and scenic....it’s quite a climb though..Once reach the destination, you will love it. Not only the monastery but also surroundings.

Situated on the top of a hill, The Durpindara monastry offers a panoramic view of Kalimpong and the hills around, including Kanchenjungha. There are a lot of paintings and relics inside the monastry. There is a school for the young Lamas. It is intersting to see when the classes are on.

Zang Dhok Palri Phodang is a Buddhist monastery in Kalimpong. The monastery is located at Durpin Hill, one of the two hills of the town. It was consecrated in 1976 by the visiting Dalai Lama. The monastery houses many rare scriptures that were brought into India after the invasion of Tibet in 1959. The view from the hill-top is breathtaking.

Its said Dalai Lama had led the foundation stone of this monastery and is one of the most popular of all the ones in and around Kalimpong. Its not as big as Rumtek but a reasonable one. The interiors are decorated with rich frescoes and colourful paintings of Buddhist mythology. No public transport as such. Take a cab from Kalimpong... More

This is one of the only monasteries you can take photos of inside. Go during evening ceremony and prayers, it's incredible and you can walk around freely whilst enjoying the sounds and rhythm of the chanting. Definitely worth a visit but go with a guide so they can explain all the history.
