Apparently it's been an unusual year in Svalbard for weather. Trips were successfully reaching Pyramiden in March, but not in April. We probably reached to about two miles from the town so we could see the buildings, but that was as far as we got. As a consolation a ladder was lowered from the ship so that the passengers could... Fjord-cruise to Pyramiden – A few operators offer this itinerary, which combines a fairly long journey up Isfjord and into Billefjord to the (almost) abandoned town of Pyramiden, with a stop at the Nordenskiöld glacier. We went with Henningsen Transport & Guiding on the MS Billefjord, leaving at 8:30am for the 11-hour round trip/. The journey out was interesting, with... More

I had a boat tour to Pyramiden with Henningsen Transport and Guiding. I found it more interesting than Barentsburg due to the overall landscape , view to Esmark glacier and the history behind it.

Very special place with a special vibe. The visit is very interesting. Some places would need some maintenance in order for this town to continue to survive. Sasha, who welcome us, was very sympathic. The section with the stalline statue is quite impressive. It would be even better if there was some explanation and historic facts on the building.

Abandoned in 98 it looks much older than that! You can see ussr vestiges, Lenine bust and olympics flame! Old mines! But still an hotel, 8 Russian guardians, a bar, some researchers... It's like an outdoor museum of USSR,,

I took a day trip to Pyramiden with Henningsen Transport and Guiding, and everyone in our group had a fantastic time. It does take quite a while to head out there on the boat, but getting there is half the fun. We saw lots of birds, a few seals, and a couple of whales, in addition to the beautiful fjords... More

So-in the late Spring I contacted the Grumant Travel Agency and booked a new trip to Pyramiden with Henningsen Transport, and two Nights at the hotel in pyramiden. We arrived on a wonderfully sunny August day by boat from Longyearbyen. We had seen not one, but two polar bears on our journey so spirits were high. Arriving at Pyramiden we were met by Sasha our Russian guide who complete with Soviet era hat brought us on a tour of the once thriving Soviet mining community - He was... More

We went to Pyramiden on a day trip with Henningsen and it was the best day on our Svalbard experience. We can highly recommend both the destination and the operator.

This is a fascinating place to visit to get a feel for Russian life out in the wilderness. The Russian guide was very witty and spoke flawless English.
