Pay a visit to Shuttleworth in Old Warden and you will have a day out to...

Pay a visit to Shuttleworth in Old Warden and you will have a day out to remember. Shuttleworth houses a unique flying collection showcasing the first one hundred years of flight. Illustrating the history of flight from the early 1900s to the 1950s, you will see how the aeroplane operated in the pioneering years, was rapidly developed during World War I, was used for sport, pleasure and business in the 1920s and 30s and once again became a fighting machine in World War II. You can see fascinating examples ofaircraft ranging from the 1909 Bleriot XI to Supermarine Spitfire and the Hawker Sea Hurricane.

Then you can explore one of England's most delightful (and unknown) historic gardens, the Swiss Garden, created in the 19th century, when an interest in ornamental gardening and picturesque architecture first came together.

The Shuttleworth Visitor Centre is a great place to pick up some fantastic gifts, or just relax with a cup of tea and a spot of lunch in the restaurant overlooking the airfield.

Great collection

Well worth the effort. A great collection of aircraft from a bygone era and they still fly! Loved the "sticks and string" ones from the early days of flying.

We enjoyed the 6 hangers full of planes, motor vechicles and memorabilia. Bit chilly in the hangers. Lunch in the cafe good and the gardens worth a visit.

We went to the evening flying display bu arrived early to take in the atmosphere and see the static exhibits. The panes were amazing, the flying superb and the commentary interesting.

Was up in Cambridge for a lunchtime meeting, so cast around for something to do during the morning. Went to the Shuttleworth Collection with no real preconception of what it was, or how good it would be, except that it had airplanes and cars. Just an amazing place. A phenomenal collection of aircraft from 1910 to the mid fifties, and... More

Especially seeing the planes fly. Older and younger children learnt a lot from this museum about flight and the planes. Loved some of the old posters -"propaganda" targeted at the public. Fascinating place to learn about history of ww2 yet equally about society and clear division of labour. Loved it Shop is good; cafe reasonably priced - the roast was... More

We visited the Swiss Cottage gardens in Old Warden on a rare, sunny afternoon. After a lovely drive through the villages leading to the gardens we found ample parking & a cafe located by the visitors centre. You have a choice of tickets; the gardens, the Shuttleworth collection or both at a reduced price. The gardens are £8 per person... More

This attraction takes one back in time with exhibits from man's first attempts to fly ,too world war 2 planes . You can see owners work on planes as well as see them fly if you are lucky . Cafe , toilets are on site all amenities are disabled friendly. Well worth a visit for all aeroplane buffs .

Vintage aeroplanes - check. Beautifu, tranquil gardens - check. A real life working aerodrome - check. We came across by chance while on a weekend away. But it was a really pleasant surprise. The plane collection focuses on the early years of flight - which can be easy to overlook when you go elsewhere and start getting distracted by later... More

Due to the smaller size I expected the collection to be interesting but a little shonky - very much mistaken. Six hangers with a range of immaculately preserved (and working) planes, cars and bikes. Large shop, and reasonably priced cafe. It was like a smaller version of Duxford. Only slight criticism - there was a fire alarm and evacuation while... More
