Well kept and looked after

As I arrived, gardeners were hard at work tidying the hedges and grass. It is located in a corner plot on the busy main road.

The memorial itself was originally commissioned to commemorate those who gave their lives in the Great War. Also known as 'The War to end All Wars', sadly like most others this memorial is testament to the failure of that worthy aim, have been updated not only to commemorate further lives lost in World War Two but also more recent conflicts.

I noticed adjacent to the memorial a recently planted tree with a plaque indicating it's purpose to commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World War in 1918.

The memorial is a worthy local tribute to the lives lost in conflict over the years since 1914. Is it a vain hope that no more names will be added to this and other such site all over the country?

Peaceful

This little park on the outskirts of Witham town centre, is a hidden gem. It is always well kept, has lovely gardens and seating, and a poignant war memorial. Sadly, hardly anyone seems to use it.

Well looked after

It is good to see that the War Memorial is still well looked after. It looks a lovely place to go and sit quietly, just off of the main road. Strangely, I've never seen anyone doing so. It obviously gets used to celebrate armistice day in November, but perhaps it is a bit out of the way for people to make more use of it.

Nicely Done

This little park on the outskirts of Witham town centre, is a bit out of the way and always seems under used. But it still is well kept, and is a fitting tribute to those that fell in two world wars. It has some nice seating in pleasant surroundings, lots of flowers around, shame more people don't use it.

Worth Looking At
Jun 2015 • Family
For such a smallish town, Witham has a fair-sized war memorial, set in its own park. The park is always well kept, and the war memorial usually has poppies on it. The park itself is small, but has seating where travellers can rest and enjoy the lawn and flowers.

Witham's War Memorial

Originally honouring citizens of Witham who gave their lives in the Great War this memorial now honours those who fell in both World Wars. Although adjacent to a very busy crossroads the memorial and small gardens provide a haven for the weary or those who wish to silently comtemplate the past and watch the world go by. The area is kept very clean and there are plenty of seats. It is the focus for the annual British Legion parades on Remembrance Day and other such occasions.

Peaceful corner beside the hustle and bustle of a major road junction
Nov 2014 • Couples
A fitting tribute to those that gave the ultimate sacrifice in ensuring our freedom, set at what is now a very busy junction of through traffic on the edge of town, good seating area and very clean and clear of litter, looks to be a well respected corner to visit.
