This is certainly a one stop shop for all your information about the New Forest. Don't forget to go in to the actual museum (its free) and look at all the memorabilia - children can also try on uniforms - great fun for us adults as well.

I visited the Museum to carry out research into availability of D-Day history realting to The New Forest. I was given assitance with locating potential sources of information and once located photo-copies were provided at reasonable reproduction costs. The archive room/library is a little treasure trove. Well worth a visit.

We stopped of here as our first stop into the New Forest. We are really glad we did,the ladies behind the desk were really helpful with recommendations on where to go and what to do. This is where we picked up all the local maps etc that we used. Definitely stop here if you are looking for information.

Our first visit to the New Forest, and to Lyndhurst was taken early May 2017. We made the mistake of visiting the New Forest Centre toward the end of our stay in the area, as commented by others it may have been more helpful to have made the visit to this venue at the beginning of our visit to the... Ideally located, right in the middle of town next to the main car park. We were cycling but needed a cycle map, they had a range of information & just what we were looking for, they were extremely knowledgeable and helpful, even suggesting cycle shops which may have more choice - how reassuring A great little resource, ideal drop in... Absolutely a place to take your children to. They can learn something here. Although I must say we did not spend that much time here. Not even an hour. But big plus is that entry is free!

The New Forest is an interesting place with a fascinating past, present and surely future and this is a great place to make sure your background knowledge is enough to mean your holiday/visit is as enjoyable as possible. There is a lot here possibly more than 2 hours if you read it all but between 1 and 2 should arm... More

Lovely little museum. Something for everyone, my parents enjoyed the video about the area and my daughter enjoyed finding the chicks hidden around the museum. Nice shop useful for buying holiday gifts for friends. Only complaint is that it was hard to find as you would of expected the visitor centre for the new forest national park to be in... More
