Our museum pays homage to Donald McGill, who spent his life creating comic artworks for the then thriving postcard industry. Donald created over 12,000 postcards from 1904 till his death in 1962.You will find that Donald's Cards will depict anything and everyone, his watchful eye never missed a humorous situation as he witnessed the years as they rolled through the 20th century.

We stumbled across the museum by accident as we were looking at vintage and bric a brac shops. The two gentlemen were very helpful in explaining the museum to us. There are literally thousands of postcards to see and the ryde museum is joined to it. A pleasant way to spend some spare time in

We stumbled across this combined museum at the bottom of a lovely arcade off Union Street having always wondered about the dusty old shop on the promenade saying it had been raide back in 1953 because of tge Donald McGill postcards. The museum, run by volunteers is excellent and kept us amused for an hour or so. They have original... More

Very pleased to find this open on a Sunday as nearly everything else in the high street including the rest of this lovely arcade was closed. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit especially looking at Old Ryde and all the little rooms in the museum part with their amazing content.

This is our third visit to the Donald McGill Postcard Museum and it still provided much amusement. We tittered and laughed our way round the postcard displays. The Heritage Museum was extremely interesting and very well thought out. Lots of displays and a wide variety of items to look at. Very friendly staff. A thoroughly great way to spend a... More

We were staying on the Isle of Wight, 1 day we were in Ryde, so went to see the Donald McGill Archive & Museum. We were Not disappointed. There are so many Cards to see & read, it would take you hours to read them all. Also there is the Museum about life on and around the Island over the... More

This museum was my my to-do list when visiting the island, but I would never have found it without help from our hosts! It is underground, down a flight of stairs, but there is a chairlift for less mobile visitors. I have never seen so many postcards - even on the ceiling - it would have been impossible to read... I could not miss the chance to visit the Donald McGill postcard museum in Ryde and although the room is small it covers all his postcards on the walls and ceiling. Admission is £3 which I thought was reasonable and the price includes viewing a piece of Ryde's history. I am on crutches so standing and reading all the amusing... More

It is quite amazing how times have changed. What was considered obscene in the 1950s and earlier would not even raise an eyebrow today. The are hundreds of original postcard on display and some of the original print runs are still available for purchase - the only thing that's changed is the unit price which seems to have streaked ahead...
