If you enjoy history this is well worth a visit. A very interesting castle and well worth a visit, with views over the river. There is plenty of information about it including that Lord Baden Powell lived there for two years with his parents.

Received a notice from my daughters school about a free ticket event. This was fantastic, spent 30 mins with the mason doing carving from slabs of stone which she got to keep. Richmond Castle is a must see when in town and offer Forces discount.

My 16 year old son and I were very glad to have included Richmond Castle as one of the many we visited in August 2016 on a trip round northern England. Richmond itself was a jewel of a historic and unspoiled market town - felt as if we'd stepped back in time. The castle gave plenty to see for a... More

Lovely grounds to explore as well as the castle itself, very good for all ages, expensive to get in and shop toys etc expensive too, same goods can be bought elsewhere at a much cheaper price, typical English heritage inflated costs.

We were staying in Richmond for the weekend so managed to visit most if not all the attractions. The Castle is ok but not the best I have visited although there are some decent views and if you are feeling fit climb the stone steps to the top of the Castle Keep, brilliant views!. The rest of the castle is... More

A 100-foot (30 m)-high keep of honey-coloured sandstone was constructed at the end of the 12th century by Duke Conan IV of Brittany. The Earldom of Richmond was seized in 1158 by Henry II of England. [a] It was King Henry II who probably completed the keep which had 11-foot (3.4 m)-thick walls.

The site holds a commanding position above the town and the River Swale so the views are magnificent. If your energy levels are high and you don't mnd heights or stairs make sure you head up the Keep. The... More

This castle is in prime position to keep away the enemy and house the locals. It is easy to access from the town yet high above the River Swale to keep out intruders. There is enough left of the castle to understand the lay out, especially the 100 foot Keep overlooking the town and the strong hill. Well worth a... More
