The Aln Valley Railway is re-opening the branch railway line which ran from Alnmouth on the Edinburgh to London main line up to Alnwick. This year Lionheart Station (use NE66 2HT for satnav) is open on advertised days, with entry to museum, engine shed and displays of rolling stock all free. Rides are available at modest fares for short trips on BUZZ and the Buffet Stop cafe is open for teas, coffees, traybakes and rolls. The Victoria sponge cakes are especially recommended. Combine a visit to the railway with visits to Alnwick's other attractions for a really good day out.

We were stunned by the revival of this interesting historic railway line, the tremendous amount of effort by an army of volunteers which made and continues to make this possible, and the facilities already in place (including a little café and a small museum). Will gladly return in a little while as and when the existing railway line has been... More

Everytime we go they have achieved something new. This time they had a steam engine working and had built more on the station. They have also started the embankment that will get them onto the old line between Alnwick and Alnmouth. A friendly bunch.

We arrived on a complete chance here having followed the brown signs. We’d read a little about it earlier in the week & thought we’d give it a go. On arrival we asked where the toilets were so we could use them before boarding the train. We were directed back to the entrance area of the car park. Due to... More

Free entry. £5 for unlimited go on the trains. The track is being extended so amenities/activities limited. Staff lovely, nice eaterie. Suitable to pass an hour.

This place is great to visit. Everyone working there is a volunteer and they have so much passion and great plans for the future, a lot of hard work has gone into it so far and it will only get better! I'll definitely visit again in the future to check out the progress! Well worth a visit 😀

It is nice to visit Aln Valley Railway at its infancy the staff are very present and enthusiastic with big ideas, I am sure they will succeed. On this occasion there was a model railway exhibition on at the same time. We payed £4 each to get in then another £5 to ride the train the very short distance up... More

Fairly good visit, you can ride along the track for a small fee. Our son loved the railway visit but our daughter wasn't overly fussed. It was great to hear about the future plans of the railway line :) Fairly easy to get to as it is signposted.

This reconstruction project definitely needs support! The intent is to create a line into Alnwick, but currently the entire line is less than a quarter of a mile long, so you don't get a long ride. There's a steam engine with corridor/compartment coaches and a diesel shunter locomotive which (for a small charge) you can actually drive. It's £5 for... More

It is so nice to visit a relatively new attraction again and see they have made progress. We visited a couple of years ago when it was newly opened and on our return visit it was great to see changes. This is great on two fronts. 1. the enthusiasm of the volunteers shows and 2. the money raised by fee... More
