Surprisingly interesting.

At the risk of alienating everyone of Scots and Irish descent, I have to say, right off, that the skirl o' the pipes leaves me cold, so I had to be dragged almost kicking and... read more

My daughter and I visited here as new residents to the area. I was a little sceptical about wether I would really find the content engaging but I was totally wrong. The museum is very well laid out and very informative, as the saying goes, 'you learn something new everyday'! I will certainly take any of my visitors to the... More

On a visit to Morpeth we popped in to this unique museum. There is something here of interest to anyone with an interest in music. The building in which it is housed is also a Tourist Information office and Shop which held some nice gifts with a local theme.

If you like bagpipes then go, you'll love it. If you don't like bagpipes then don't.... And definitely don't photograph anything!

At the risk of alienating everyone of Scots and Irish descent, I have to say, right off, that the skirl o' the pipes leaves me cold, so I had to be dragged almost kicking and protesting into this museum. Pleasantly surprised to find that there is a lot more both size and origin wise about the pipes than massed marching... More

Visited again (last visit 15yrs ago) really fascinating little museum. Sadly the earphones still not working which means much of the enjoyment was lost- a real shame. It was still great in a nice little town- and is free to visit.

This interesting museum is just one of a number of activities in the lovely and historical building. The bagpipes on display are varied and fascinating, representing the local ones but additionally those from around the world. The tourist office is also located here as is a gift shop and a cafe. They all combine to form great uses in the... More

It's not big but it's well laid out with interesting information on a wide range of bagpipes including Northumbrian, various Scottish and Irish and other international varieties.

Well worth a visit if you are at all interested in the Northumbrian Smallpipes or bagpipes generally. The score is perhaps a bit harsh but I think more could have been made of it. The headphone system was not working but we were told that it only played the music we could hear playing downstairs anyway. This is a pity... More
