Wonderful little museum
Aug 2021 • Family
Such a treasure trove of information and displays in a compact space, astounding to think all the fossil exhibits were found locally.

Our two boys, although circumspect on stepping into the building, were thoroughly absorbed by the first display.

Watchet is a stunning fishing village, and this little gem of a museum is a worthy teller of its back story.

Tiny but packed with information

Although this museum is very small, it is packed with absolutely loads of information and historical facts, artefacts and photographs. We found a portrait of one of the previous town dignitaries named Chidgey, then saw a wartime photograph of a lady named Chidgey, who was obviously a descendent 200 years apart. So fascinating. Entry is free!!

We stopped at Watchet on our way to Minehead and are so pleased we did.

We saw this little museum and entered. We were amazed at just how much they have crammed into such a small space.

Loads of interesting things and lots of items bought back memories.

Some great history in here, showing what a busy place Watchet used to be. Emphasis on maritime matters but some interesting geology as well

Staff are so lovely and were great to chat with. The nail art outside is amazing and worth a look. Lots inside to have a look at.

Small but interesting maritime and local history
Jul 2019 • Couples
Well worth a stop here to get a flavor of Watchet’s history at this museum. The space is very small so you can be in and out likely in less than 30 minutes. Exhibits include various maritime related artifacts and stories. Sprinkled in as well are various stories of local city history. If the history catches your curiosity and you want to learn more, a book stand inside the museum offers additional reading material. Glad we made this stop today.

I had the luck to have some time available to be able to visit this exceptional attraction. The two lady volunteers were a delight and were able to shed light on anything I asked. The use of exhibits, photos, books, videos and the external dioramas give a brilliant overview into Watchet's rich history. Essential visit to anyone interested in local history and especially Watchet with it's very interesting past.
