Can't resist the Ancient Mariner!
Nov 2021
I can never resist stopping by the Ancient Mariner statue on Watchet's wonderful harbourside to think of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem which we studied at school (one of my favourite poems). Watchet harbour is so attractive, atmospheric and pretty, that it's the perfect setting for this statue of the Ancient Mariner. We love it!

Pleasant walk alongside the harbour
Sep 2021
Despite the rain, it was a nice walk alongside the harbour, local history of the people and information to read about the area. Just past the end of East Quay is a new art building, almost finished construction, with a cafe and art galleries. Paper making, local artists and the opportunity to buy their items. OK for a mobility scooter, although at the time the lift wasn't working to get to the other floor.

Nice area
Aug 2021 • Family
Statue is just a statue, nice but in 30 seconds you've seen it and took the photo. However, the area is lovely, small but has something about it from the lovely little market, lovely beach and plenty of car parks. Colourful little town with a great atmosphere

Yes, it's still there!
Apr 2021
It's still there, dominating Watchet Harbour and attracting fascinated attention from passers-by. Including us! Although I've seen the statue of the Ancient Mariner countless times, it never ceases to thrill me, as I love Coleridge's poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. We visited Coleridge Cottage last year before the pandemic. Highly recommended, both the statue and the cottage!

Gloriously sunny day in Watchet
Nov 2020
We must have chosen the last day of autumn to visit Watchet Harbour. The sun was gloriously bright and warm, no clouds at all. The statue of the Ancient Mariner looked beautiful in the sunshine. Alan B Herriot was the sculptor of the statue which was installed in 2003. Coleridge was inspired to compose The Rime of the Ancient Mariner standing on this harbourside after walking from Nether Stowey accompanied by Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy. Watchet Harbour itself is so attractive that it has to be one of our favourite places. There are plenty of benches to sit and drink in the view, have a coffee or ice cream, rest. It seems the repairs are still ongoing where the harbour wall collapsed some time ago - we saw many cranes etc in the distance.

interesting place to visit
Aug 2020
lovely esplanade to walk along, read the inscription on the monuments, sit and have a coffee or other watch the world go by - was very windy when we went so couldn't walk round to the lighthouse as i am unsteady on my feet but well worth a visit, lovely little place for shops and once the railway opens again will re visit

Nice little harbour front
Aug 2020 • Family
Staying nearby, we popped quite a few times into watchet and the harbour front is a nice little central focal point. Good place for an ice cream, the Wednesday market is a lovely one, and later in the eve a pint from the window of the harbour club was a good relaxing one too

A Wet and windy day in Watchet
Mar 2020
As places of interest were frantically closing ahead of advice from the Government, we were stuck for places to go. Still worth a visit once things get better, and restrictions are relaxed. Don't forget there will be Steam Trains running then!
