Brilliant day! We went on a Tuesday and it was nice and quiet.
The longest wait we had for a rollercoaster was about 30 minutes and that was for The Smiler.
Gates open at 9am. The rides don’t open until 10am. That first hour gives you time to get in and get yourself sorted. We started with Galactica because we guessed everyone would head straight for The X-Sector. This turned out to be a good move! By the time we had done Galactica and Nemesis Sub-Terra the queues for the x-sector had gone down.
Definitely download the Alton Towers app as it has a park map and live queue times for all of the rides.
The toilets in the park were spotless.
We paid for the express parking which allows you to park pretty much right next to the gates. Great for making a swift exit at the end of the day.

Had an amazing day. We got really lucky and only had to wait 5 to 10 minutes per queue. Loads of walking so wear comfy shoes. Can't wait to go back

For my money, Alton Towers is still the best theme park in the UK (though Thorpe is still on my to do list).
The Cbeebies land is good for kids up to about 4. The issue is with Kids 4-6. They are almost too grown up for CBeebies but can't really go on much else due to some rather un-necessary height restrictions. Like 1.1m to go on, especially fast tea cups?
The park has beautiful scenery and some of coasters are incredible.
Usual gripes of expensive food and shambolic exit from the car park aside, we had a great day out and look forward to returning.

It was really fun we had a blast. Staff was friendly. One of the rides stopped as we was on them but it was not stuck for long. Was very good! The food was delicious. Only disappointing thing was me and the three others bought a fast track as we wanted to fast track on the smiler and after talking to a staff member we bought one. But it was not explained that we needed to by a certain one so we bought the bronze to then find out that it could not be used. So we was very disappointed about that and tried to get a refund but couldn’t. But other than that it was a fun day out!

So I’ve been to Alton Towers and this time was when the smiler takeover was happening. I’m gonna try to not talk about the event and to talk more about the ride experience and how the scenery of said rides are. This will be split into sections for each ride and may have spoilers for the ride experience
1. the smiler
Probably the most intense ride (just beating nemesis by inversion count) and usually has a queue of 45 minutes up to 3 hours. Do expect to be thrown around and to bang your head on the restraint (especially if you’re on the second row, right side, last seat. One of the most uncomfortable seats). This ride is good the first time since you have the fear but you get acclimated to the ride. Do recommend buying fast track for this ride since you can get straight to the front.
Station has an operation room sort of feel and the rides theme is on the several ‘marmalisation techniques (marmalisation is a term in the smiler’s lore of which I won’t dive into since I’ve only just hit 1000 characters with this section and the other section alone). I would DEFINITELY recommend riding 10/10.
2. Oblivion
Oblivion is probably on of the most nerve racking rides there and will always make you scream when you plunge down the (not) vertical drop. This ride has a fairly short queue most of the time but can get busy so I would recommend using your discretion on if this ride is worth fast track.
Also this ride doesn’t really make your head bang as much but you are literally touching arms with the person next to you so you do feel quite compacted. This ride also has not much but okay theming
Good ride. I would recommend riding it.
3. Wicker man
This ride is more of a family ride but it does have power though I don’t think it’s worth queuing 100 minutes for it. It has no inversions but has lots of airtime.
This ride can feel quite jolty and can have really long queues as the day goes on. I would say fast track has a significant but not full impact on the queuing.
This ride also has lots of theming and even has its own language made for it. It has a huge wooden statue with fake fire and smoke (we call this statue big Bob in the theme park community).
I would recommend if the queue is short to medium length
4. Th13teen (thirteen)
This ride is also a children’s coaster and has some very good air time. With fast track I was straight on the ride. This ride follows a woods theme and is next to Rita (we’ll get to that one eventually).
I would recommend fast track for this ride since you’re straight on with it.
I’d ride this if you feel like it
5. Rita
This ride is painful in the back and little to no theming whatsoever. I would not recommend fast track since it’s still quite a queue and you have no chance of the front seat. Please if you’re going on this QUEUE FOR THE FRONT SEAT
Would recommend if you’re queuing for front seat don’t bother using fast track and please BRACE YOURSELF.
6. Galactica (air)
This ride is a wonderful introduction coaster and is very calm and relaxing though it is a small bit hectic and it has a long queue time (should be better with nemesis subtera). I would recommend fast track for this ride.
This ride has not a lot of theming since they had no money to theme it.
Would recommend riding and using fast track.
That is probably all I’m going to do since I never got on curse at Alton manor and I haven’t ridden nemesis or nemesis subtera (I will update when I get on the rides)

Stayed in the lodges - Although basic they are warm, comfy and (mostly clean)
The breakfast offered with the lodges was of good quality and set you off for a good day
The park itself is very well maintained - I myself was a Head of Facilities for a major holiday chain and i am very impressed with the overall maintenance and cleanliness of the site.
Cbeebies land is great for kids i would say there is stuff to do from say 2 - 7 years old. The live shows are great for kids
I would recommend for a family break and to go for 2 days so you can enjoy at leisure.

A fantastic day for the whole family. Would definitely recommend the Fasttrack tickets if you’ve got any thrill seekers with you, enabling them to get on most of the rides mich quicker and if getting a platinum pass, then unlimited times.

Great time visiting the resort. I’ve already left a positive review about the Alton towers hotel, so here’s the rest.
Day one went to splash landings water park which was fab. Lots of things to do in there, I think we spent over 3 hours in there but probably could’ve done more if we didn’t have other things on.
After the Waterpark we went for food at the crooked spoon. Excellent well priced (in the current climate) food and drink. Prompt service and the staff were very polite and friendly.
After that went and played golf on a very fun and unique course which is all theme park ride related. It’s not easy but we didn’t bother with scores or rules etc so just had a bit of fun. We then headed back to the hotel for some entertainment which was enjoyable then back to the room for some sleep.
Great day in the park the next day. It’s always going to be busy in there but it’s spaced out, well maintained and so many attractions that it didn’t feel cramped. Lots of places to get a burger or a hotdog and drinks. Some amazing rides new and the old favourites like runaway mine train. All in all a great couple of days, will definitely be back!

We arrived early, eager to get started.
It was so much fun. Yeah. A lot of time spent in queues but the only one that was excruciating was the wicker man. That took way too long for such a short ride. I wouldn’t do that one again.
Definitely need more than one day to explore everything. Fun day out.

Can you go on rides with a bag? And if so what kind? (e.g. bum bag or small cross body bag). Or is it best just to have zip pockets?

You can’t take bags onto most rides. They all have somewhere where you can leave them at your own risk whilst you ride.

We are thinking of using the kelloggs 2 for 1 offer but it says we need to bring the packet! Do we have to go to customer services or can they just check it at the gate or do you get an eticket as I don't want to queue twice so not sure if it's worth the hassle?
Stubbo10

You will get e-tickets that you just scan at the entrance. They very rarely if ever ask for the cereal packet.
Will Alton towers ask for my student ID when i arrive as i book using mu student discount?
Stubbo10

If you have bar coded tickets already you can just scan them at the turnstiles on arrival with no need to see a member of staff.
Whats the best time to get to the park as a hotel guest, to ensure we get in the park by 9:30am? Also would it be best to use the monorail or the galactica entrance? Thanks.

Use the Galactica entrance, saves lots of time.
Hi. I'm looking at booking 2 nights at the Alton Towers Hotel. Does anybody know if you can leave the hotel carpark to go and eat at one of the pubs in Alton in the evening and then return? The reviews for the resort restaurants are not great so I'd rather eat elsewhere. Thanks
Stubbo10
603 contributions
Yes absolutely, you can leave and come back as you wish.
Hi, if buying tickets for the park, let's say three nights (4 days). We arrive on check-in day at around 3pm, then have the next two days to enjoy the park, leaving on the last day. Would a ticket for the theme park be required for that first day (when checking in) if we don't intend to use the park? We want to use the first day of arrival to just settle in since we're traveling far to get to the park.
Many thanks.
Stubbo10

No, you only need theme park tickets for the days you specifically want to enter the theme park. You can visit the hotels etc without needing a theme park ticket.

My daughter will be visiting next Thursday, park opens at 10am. I’m presuming that’s what time the rides start. Does anyone know what time she will be able to get through the park barriers at ?

Alton towers also have Splash landings water park and crazy golf. Situated at the hotels. Inside the park is sealife centre, the curse at Alton manor and live entertainment
