After 17 years of passing the entrance to the pumping station, we made the diversion & what a surprise. Why had it taken so long? We spent over 4 hours there. It was absolutely fantastic. At the start of the tour a brilliant man called Ernie Smith gave us a history of the pumping station. He had worked there for... More

Visited here on one of the two days in January when the machinery is powered up and you can see the amazing pumps in action. What a dedicated band of volunteers with so many people demonstrating how impressive the machinery, made so long ago, operated. A little gem! The cafe has great home made cakes, and we really enjoyed seeing... More

I have lived in Burton all my life just about and only went here about 3 years ago, and I could not believe how good it was. This is a superb monument to Victorian engineering, and really well looked after. A great day out!

I went here with the wife and young children. They all loved it. When the machinery is running it is a real sight to see. A credit to the people who run it. They are very friendly and love talking to you about the pumping station

We went to an open day, great atmosphere, guides who know and care plus Roy on the dumper truck. Highly recommended for all, go and enjoy.

We really enjoyed the Steaming Day at Claymills - and full credit to the volunteers who have worked so hard to restore the two beam engines. I really enjoyed the fact that all the equipment on site belonged here, and learnt a lot about the site and the history of the equipment. Whilst most of the volunteers were very friendly... More

Our party of 11 enjoyed a visit to the pumping station on a "steaming" day, 29 October, where many steam engines of all types were in operation. The sheer power of the main pumping engines was marvellous to behold, and gave an impression of what the first steam engines much have given to those seeing them for the first time... More

Fantastic example of how steam powered so much for the Victorians. Very interesting and the passion the volunteer workers show for the machines is second to none. They are very dedicated people and thank goodness we have people like them or all of the history on this site would have been lost for ever. Not to be missed if you... More
