A big achievement
Oct 2021 • Solo
Was unsure whether I could make this climb but so glad I did- spectacular view & a real sense of achievement. It was hard but with a few rest stops along the way the climb was done. The last bit hauling yourself on chains was actually quite easy - your arms doing the work. Well worth it!

Amazing views at every turn.
May 2021
This was the highlight of my trip to Cradle Mountain - a very achievable walk through a variety of different landscape types. Was quite busy up top with everyone having lunch so finding somewhere to sit to rest was difficult.

a nice half-day challenge
May 2021 • Couples
This walk leads to one of the best views of Cradle Mt, even better than the Dove Lake view. The catch is you'd need to hike for about 3hours. I'd recommend starting from Dove Lake and coming back via the Crater Lake and Crater Falls track to Ronny Creek carpark. You need to be reasonably fit. Walking sticks recommended. There's a steep climbing section but thankfully they installed chains for you to help with the climb. It's not easy but worth it esp on a clear sunny day. Those walking the overland track will be climbing to this lookout with their full backpacks hauling themselves up the chains!

What a Climb
Mar 2021 • Friends
What a climb, I absolutely loved it, my friend hates me for dragging her up there, but she did well to make it to the top. The views are absolutely breathtaking, would absolutely recommend, we climbed up from the Dove Lake Circuit and came down via Wombat Pool. Stunning views all along the way.

Second time and still just as good.
Mar 2021
This was my second time doing this walk and it was just as spectacular. Would definitely still recommend doing it from Ronny Creek as I feel it is less strenuous then from Dove lake. I also think it's a bit more scenic as you pass Lake Lilla, wombat pool. You do still need to climb but the paths are mostly well formed. The view at the top is stunning and a great spot to have a snack/meal if you are able to find a spot away from the wind! From there you can choose to walk further and attempt the peak or return via the horses track. Alternatively backtrack the way you came and go back via crater lake. Whichever you choose it's all beautiful!

Tough to get to, but worth the slog
Jan 2021
Provided the clouds have lifted, the view from Marions is stunning – 1200 metres up, and 360 degrees around the park taking in the whole of Dove Lake, Cradle Mountain, Crater Lake and beyond.
But this is a tough slog, whichever path you choose.
The easiest is the opening section of the Overland Track from Ronny Creek, which takes you across grassland, then into the trees, past a waterfall, Crater Lake, and up on to the saddle.
Here, you’re about 1100 metres up, and the views are very good, if you want to head back down from here. To make it to the lookout the last section is a slog up a steep section of rocks, using chains onto the top of the peak and the lookout. This will take you about 2 hours, and most people should be able to manage it, provided they are comfortable with the last chain haul.
The Lilla Lake Track from Dove Lake is also quite good – past Lilla Lake, up the staircase to Wombat Pool, then the steep section up to the saddle where you join the Overland Track and the steep clamber up the chain and rocks to the lookout.
The 3rd option is the climb up from the Dove Lake Circuit starting just behind the boathouse. This one is not for the faint-hearted as it is very steep, climbing 400 metres in half an hour, much of it up steep rock faces where you need to haul yourself up a chain with both hands. But, it is good for the time poor as it can be done, there and back, in under an hour, or, 2.5 hours as a diversion on the Dove Lake Circuit.
But only if the weather is good.

A little More Stenuous But Worth It
Jan 2021
We commenced at Dove Lake and walked to Lake Lilla and then to Wombat Pond and then up to the crest just below Marion's Lookout which sits at 1,200 Metres. You get fantastic views of Dove lake, Lake Lilla and Crator Lake along the way. From Crater lake head downhill (great) to Ronny Creek which is the start of the Overland Trail. It took about three hours maximum. There were parts that were strenuous but the views worth it even on a cold and misty day. A few strange animals were seen on the way along with many heading up to the Overland Trail on a cold summer's day (wearing shorts).

windy, rainy and still worth it
Jan 2021
Crazy mountain weather was incredible. Pack for all weathers! A break in the clouds gave stunning views over cradle mountain and the walk was fairly easy with lots of stops for photography. A scramble over rocks near the end might be tricky for some but with the chain to assist it was totally fine even in pretty windy and wet weather.

Worth the climb
Jan 2021 • Couples
We started from Ronny Creek car park and went via crater lake. We are both quite fit and it took us 3 hours in sand shoes with a few stops to eat some snacks. The views were amazing and some of the best on Cradle Mountain. Some tricky steps up to the lookout but if you take your time, it was fine.
