It was very interesting and a real tranquil pretty place for the soldiers to be laid to rest. The island is accessible by car.

It cost $2.00 cash only to get onto the Island. The island is beautiful and has a pretty inlet with cliffs and large castle like homes. The confederate prison cemetery is very well maintained. There is a box at the gate with a brochure about the cemetery. The headstones are are marble or white stone of some sort but very... More

Just visited this place after my father-in-law told us about it and showed us around. Very classy as all the graves are kept in great shape and had wreathes on each tombstone for the holiday season.

We came across this place looking for other places! Civil War history here in Lake Erie, just across from Cedar Point! There was a prison here used to house Confederate Officers, two of them well known. While there is not all that much to see (the prison has been replaced by housing) the cemetery has been preserved, and that is... More

$2 toll to get to the island. Lots of great homes to see and the cemetery is quite historic. Right on the lake with great views. Well kept old civil war cemetery

Traveled out of the way to visit this cemetery and I'm glad I did. It's a quaint cemetery but a great piece of history. Beautifully preserved.

We were really glad we made the effort to find this. The historical significance of this site made it of interest to our group. As others have noted, it is hard to find. It took us two attempts to find it.

Kinda hard to find, the historical marker at entrance to road is small enough you can drive right by. There is a gate that you put in $2 (don't pay coming out). There are houses here as well so you may see others using a code to open gate. There were several families there with bored-looking kids. From the back... More

Very interesting information provided on sight. We homeschool our children. This made for a wonderful US History lesson about the Civil War.

It's difficult to imagine how men from the South felt when they saw their prison on this island. Today it is peaceful with 206 marked graves, and the remains of 253 unknowns buried under the statue of a Confederate soldier. It is a memorable landmark of a terrible war, and well-worth the visit. The access to the causeway is not... More
