Description:

Built during the War of 1812 by William Henry Harrison, Fort Meigs...

Built during the War of 1812 by William Henry Harrison, Fort Meigs successfully defended Ohio from a combined force of British and Native Americans during the spring and summer of 1813. It also served as the step-off point for General Harrison's invasion of Canada in the fall of that year.

Reconstructed in the 1970s and again in 2000 on its original location, Fort Meigs stands today to tell the story of the thousands of soldiers who lived, fought, and died there over 200 years ago.

In addition to the reconstructed fort, a visitor center and museum are also located on the site, housing hundreds of artifacts discovered during archaeological digs of the battlefield.

Fort Meigs on the banks of the Maumee river played an important part in the war of 1812. A good place to walk and stop at various block houses to view their exhibits. One stop has an uniformed soldier who demonstrates musket firing. The main building also houses a museum. The Fort is the site of reenactments. Good place for the... More

The Fort is mainly the outer structure and the towers. It would be even better if the inside had more of the original buildings and set up. The big plus to the site is the entry building where the history unfolds on the fort and the war of 1812 itself as well as other wars in the history of the... More

I visited on Fort Meigs on Independence Day 2016. There were special programs including cannon firing and other weapons demonstrations so that it took longer than usual to see everything. However, including the visitor center and all of the exhibits in the blockhouses and the monuments and interpretive markers, you should plan for a four or five hour visit. The... More

We were visiting the area and actually stumbled onto this place by accident, on Veterans Day, as we were walking the Maumee river. Cool old fort. Interesting to see the grounds and read a bit of history. We went in November and the place was isolated, which was cool with me since we had the place to ourselves... but I... More

Well worth a visit. Largest reconstructed fort in nation. War of 1812 era. Limited access to blockhouses within the fort in non summer months. Impressive. Superior museum and gift shop. Spotless. Easily accessible and good parking. Hope ;you are as pleased and surprised as we were.

I stumbled across Fort Meigs while visiting President William Henry Harrison's tomb in North Bend, Ohio (also an awesome site to visit). While reading Harrison's resume, his experience as a war general caught my eye. On the way to Toledo, we made a side stop at Fort Meigs and WOW! Best side trip ever. The fort is an exemplary and well-maintained... More

This place offers a great way to experience local history (the good and the bad), and get some great views in the process. Fort Meigs has a ton of calendar activities through the year, but even when nothing is going on it is worth walking around and checking the facilities out.

This is a nice low key visit to a classic battlefield. If you like history, this is a good one to see.

Even though it was raining it was a great place to visit. A lot of history about the fort and how it was involved in the war of 1812. A must see if your in Perrysburg
