Drove to the far south side by the Nature center & then east to small ditches on the north side of the road. BIRDS! Everywhere! Amazing day sitting in one spot all afternoon. Camping is nothing but a mowed hay field. One fire pit & no tables, water etc.

The 2015 rains were very good to Hackberry Flat WMA and the wildlife is in its full glory! So many birds, waterfowl, insects, wildflowers and more! Hackberry Flat staff were so helpful and knowledgable. The visitors center is beautiful. This is a must see if you are in SW OK.

Hackberry Flat is southeast of Frederick, OK and west of Lawton, OK, home of Ft. Sill. The nearest Texas city of any size is Wichita Falls. In mid-October, the Wildlife Management Area personnel have a monarch butterfly watch. I liked the doves. When the water is back, I'll like it even more. The staff has really taken great pains to make this 7,500 acres a solid migratory bird habitat--but we need rain to fill up all these impoundments!
