TripAdvisor needs to break this out to activities within the forest. That said, this is one of the best NF areas in the west. Hundreds of miles of well-mapped trails for all-season activity. Different areas are, at least locally, known to be appropriate for different activities. Example: Phil's Trails for mountain-biking, versus the Deschutes River Trail for long runs. Ask... More

Huge place, and every place we drove through was gorgeous. Loved the mountain scenery. Very well maintained. Keep your camera on hand because there are lots of vistas to photograph. We tried to go to Paulina's Peak twice one week, but it was closed. A bit treacherous if the snow hasn't been scraped off the road though, so you find... More

This is a huge National Forest and from the little we saw of it, definitely a place worth exploring. Gorgeous scenery and great hiking.

Really enjoyed this place. We took advantage of the paved bike trails. Also did the hike to Benham falls. Fairly short hike over easy terrain. The falls/Rapids were awe inspiring. Highly recommend.

We explored various areas of the very large Deschutes National Forest. The forest is 1.8 million acres and is primarily on the east side of the Cascade Range in Oregon. It is located in parts of the Deschutes, Klamath, Lake, and Jefferson Counties.

You can hike, ride, kayak, fish, ski, climb, snowmobile, off road, or just sit back and read a book in view of the snow capped Cascade Mountains. American outdoor recreation at... More

There is so much to do outdoors no matter what your outdoor activity is. I have traveled all over U.S. and when I came on vacation in 92, fell in love with area, moved here in 93 and been here ever since.

Do yourself a favor and spend time in the amazing Deschutes Forest. We are blessed to live within a day's drive and camp here at least once a year. One of our favorite spots is Davis Lake - with about 18-20 campsites @$12 per night. Great fishing, beautiful scenery.

There is abundant of activities to do with the family. If you like to hike, bike, fish, camp, kayak, this is the place for you. Be sure to bring a jacket at the temperatures change in the higher altitude. In July we saw temperatures in the 60's to low 50's.
