We're not big into Museums and just popped in here as we were passing and loved it. Outside - old ranchers accommodation and saw mill, plus otters and beautiful landscaped grounds with plenty of each seating. Inside - fantastic exhibitions on WWII, Indians and how the area was colonised. We spent the afternoon but wish we had longer before closing... More

Beautiful grounds including a river and forest area , bronze sculptures, live animals,( birds, porcupines, otters, fish, reptiles) and Indian artifacts. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There is a small entrance fee to help offset expenses.

Well worth your time to visit wonderful Museum! The first time we ever stopped, way back in 1994, we thought we could spend a quick hour before heading to another engagement in Sunriver. Well we were certainly wrong, you should plan at a minimum of 2 hours or more to see everything. Inside the museum they change several large program... More

We usually take our grand children but the excellent exhibits are just as interesting for us older folk! The exhibits change frequently. Can get busy in the summer months.

My husband and I visited the museum on a trip through the area. This is a fantastic museum. The temporary WWII exhibit was outstanding. It was cold and rainy on the day we went so we didn't get to see all of the outside exhibits, but we did get over to see the feeding of the river otters, which was... More

Informative museum covering all aspects of the American West including the famous Oregon trail. There is even an original stage coach in the entrance. Check out the website for full details. Children will be amazed, adults will appreciate just how hard it was for the early settlers to survive!

We visited High Desert Museum with grown kids from New Zealand. We watched the staff feed the otters, and watched a "raptor" encounter. The staff was very knowledgable and helpful. The facility is handicapped accessible although the paths are not completely smooth. Very interesting and good to see they are expanding!!
