I went here because I found a hiking meetup group in Eugene while there on business. We met at the parking lot/trail head and walked up a breath-taking trail. I'm from Utah and so the tall green trees and ferns everywhere on this trail were most definitely a change of my normal hiking scenery and the Northwest is AMAZING for... More

This 1.7 mile hike took my husband and I about an hour and 15 minutes. It was a nice little uphill exercise. This path is well traveled and a moderate hike. There were quite of few kids on this trail. The view of Eugene was pretty cool. It was worth the time!

I'd climbed Spencer Butte years ago while growing up in Eugene and decided, on a whim, after dinner, to see if I could make it to the top while in town to attend my 55th high school reunion. I knew that, since I'd climbed Spencer Butte in the 1960s, the trail had been greatly improved. I knew that there are... More

We hiked with 2 teenagers and 3 little kids - ages 3, 6, and 8. The 3 year old did have to be carried in a soft back sling part of the time, but for the most part, the kids did just fine. This trail is very popular and we passed many people on the trail and there were several... More

We've enjoyed hiking part or all of this trail and each time it is a pleasure. Whether we walk or jog it, we are refreshed and appreciate the time in nature this trail provides. It is close to town which is a bonus.

Spencer Butte is a nice spot for a quick in-town hike, roughly 5 miles round trip, starting at the parking lot on Willamette and W 52nd. But it can get crowded, so don't go expecting seclusion! The place was packed with hikers with dogs and kids on a sunny Sunday morning in June.

Lovely hike that is somewhat challenging. We started at the Ridgetrail trailhead but didn't realize that the hike was longer starting from this vantage point. We hiked 5.2 miles total. Although the view was lovely, I enjoyed the forest just as much- felt like Costa Rica.

We took the shorter, steeper trail up to the top . . . and stopped a few times to catch our breath before it was more permanently taken away by the view from the top. Holy cow! Views for days. Well worth it, and the return trip downward (on the longer, lesser sloped trail) was easier on the knees.
