Considered the largest sea cave in the United States, this site is where Steller sea lions and their cubs take shelter each year. Sea Lion Caves is a privately owned wildlife preserve and bird sanctuary. The Caves has been in operation since 1932 preserving and protecting the wildlife under our care. We are open 363 days a year only closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving day. Our normal hours of operation are 9 am until dusk year round. We are not a zoo and the animals are free to come and go as they please. The sea lions can usually be found at either of four locations on the property; in the Cave, in the water, at the Lookout/rockery, and on other nearby rock ledges. HOWEVER, THE SEA LIONS ARE NOT ALWAYS IN THE CAVE OR MAY BE MIGRATING OUT OF AREA - THEY ARE WILD ANIMALS AND COME AND GO AS THE PLEASE. CALL AHEAD FOR INFORMATION. Self-guided are the rule, but guided tours are available.

I totally love the Sea Lion Caves and make it a point to go there whenever we are on the Oregon Coast. It's better in the winter season when they tend to be in the caves. Also, try the fudge at the gift shop. It's a part of the reason I always want to go back!

We stopped in mid-July first thing in the morning and the whole area was crowded with SeaLions. There are outside viewing areas both north and south of the cave that were very active in the morning. It's about a 100yd walk with a decent incline. Down the elevator the cave was full of sea lions on every space usable. Very... More

There were no sea lions and considering that is the title of this business I believe that this company should think about how they do business. Why charge even $1.00 if you can't see the actual animal they are advertising.

Thank you for visiting Sea Lion Caves. Because we are not a zoo and none of our animals are held in captivity and are free to come and go as they please, there may be times that we have no sea lions in the cave. We inform all visitors if we have no sea lions and offer each visitor a... More

Unfortunately, the sea lions were not there when we visited in September. However, this is still a nice stop while driving the PCH. A great view of the lighthouse when you go up the steps while in the cave.

I'm told a new elevator is being installed which will make your visit much more enjoyable. A great family experience!

This is a must-see if you're in the area ...Hard to believe that it's been there forever and it never gets old...Have visited it every time I'm in the area...my folks took me here over 60 years ago when I was just five ...have brought my children and grandchildren...Great experience gets up close and personal...I guess I can affirm it... Very interesting BUT no sea lions in the cave (which they told us-and gave a discount) but personally would skip the cave since the sea lions are why it is most noted for.

Always a nice stop along Hwy 101, although during peak vacation season (summer months) it can get quite crowded. Great vistas to view, a fun gift shop to explore!
