We were in Central/Eastern Oregon camping. I've read about this place for a few years now and was looking forward to going there. It was abit out of my wife's and my travels, but figured it was worth it. Glad we brought our own tools....More

What an amazing place! They try to keep tools on site, but the tools immediately walk away. Be sure to bring a hammer, small wood chisel, and maybe a small shovel. We dug into a layer of soft rock at the base of the hill...More

While passing through the area we had little time to search but I was lucky. I found a nice fossil plant leaf. Must be great to spend more time but unfortunately we had to move on.

Take a quick walk through history and see if you can find a fossil or two. We didn't find any, but it was fun to walk around and search.

We stopped here after visiting the painted hills. They have all the tools you will need, even safety goggles. Keep digging and you will find a ton of fossils.

Fun experience of digging and finding leaf fossils. The money goes to help for high school activities.

This is a DIY place. You pay $5 more or less, at a drop box and walk in along a path. The hillside pictured is where you dig. I found a leaf fossil. In all fairness, I was not prepared. I didn't bring my coat...More
