The quickest way to the tunnels is taking the trail on the East side of the tunnels

My husband and I stopped at the Mosier visitor’s center to get more information about the Mosier Twin tunnels. We knew we could get to the tunnels from the East or the West. We... read more

My husband and I stopped at the Mosier visitor’s center to get more information about the Mosier Twin tunnels. We knew we could get to the tunnels from the East or the West. We wanted to take the shortest tour (on the East side of the tunnels) but did not have good directions. The lady at the visitor’s center said... More

This Historic Highway 30 is drop dead gorgeous! It's filled with waterfalls, some of which you can see from parking lots and others you need to hike to. A lot of the people whizzing by on 84 probably never guess that paralleling 84 is a slow meandering beauty of a road. You drive through the woods and stop along the... More

If you're traveling along Interstate 84 along the Columbia River, exit off and take Historic Highway 30/Historic Columbia River Highway. It doesn't add too much mileage but you will be more than rewarded with amazing waterfalls, beautiful scenic overlooks, lovely fruit orchards, quaint little older homes, cool bridges, tunnels, and even pretty road guard rails built during the early 1900's.... Full of history and beauty, great views for the Columbia river. Its amazing how they built roads on the side of a mountain back in the day. Not to be missed!!

In anything close to good weather, the old Columbia River Hwy is spectacular. It's jaw dropping. Sunsets will remain in your mind and heart for a very long time. Workmanship on the highway is stunning.

Beautiful scenic drive with plenty of opportunities to stop and enjoy the scenery. The old highway is curvy and it's much slower driving than staying on 84 but if you have the time, it's definitely worth it.

Some reviewers seem to think this is the historic highway you drive on. No -- this is the abandoned section of that highway between Mosier and Hood River that you can hike on and enjoy the views without competing with cars. A bit tricky to find from either end, but worth it! You can walk through the Mosier Tunnels which... More

While on a business trip, joined a weekly weeknight shop ride at the trailhead, by chance. Was not intimidated by the signs the rangers had put up stating: "Bears have been seen. If attacked, fight back." Not too tough to cycle, and has great views.

Whether you're looking for beautiful vistas, strenuous hikes, or easy strolls, there is something for everyone. Just be prepared to stop a lot. You won't appreciate it if you drive on by.
