We always like visiting the Marine Science Center. Love that it's free (donations accepted). Some fun experiments to play with and a nice touch pool

Oregon State U. has a distinguished marine science program and this facility highlights some of its work andhighlights of what is happening in the field. It is aimed at the general public, not specialists, and is definitely worth a visit. For those who have been there before, the octopus has been released to the wild and the staff is searching... My husband and I enjoyed a trip to the Hatfield Marine Science Center during our visit to Newport. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the displays were interesting and informative. We enjoyed the touch & feel tide pool and the simulated tsunami display the best. Hope to visit again soon!

We stopped in on a whim because we saw a whale skull in the parking lot. Boy are we glad that we did! Once our two kids, 11 and 9, got inside we were there for three hours! There are aquariums, educational exhibits and hands-on learning opportunities. My kids mostly loved the tsunami test tank, and the "petting" tank where... More

This place is great. My wife always refers to this place as the "free alternative to the aquarium." After you've gone though, I hope you will see the effort they put in to the Center and comply with the suggested donation the have in place. I would hate to see this place close because of a lack of funding. Our... More

The interactive exhibits are what really sets HMSC apart from your typical aquarium. They do have some aquariums including a touch tank with sea anemones and urchins and sea stars that has instructions on how to touch the animals. But the real cool exhibits are the interactive tsunami tank where you can build Lego buildings and see how they fare... More

My family and I visited this attraction while staying in Newport. We visited it after we had also visited the nearby Oregon Coast Aquarium. This attraction is really interesting and has lots of hands on, interactive exhibits for kids and adults alike. This isn't the same as its aforementioned much larger cousin, but is worth the visit, even if you... More

This aquarium and exhibit area is large enough to spend a few hours exploring. The exhibits demonstrate research being done by the HMSC scientists. Watch the octopus being fed, visit the tide pool touch tanks and learn about fish and tsunamis. There are lots of hands on exhibits. I have taken small children and grandparents and they all had a...
