The Oregon City Municipal Elevator has been in operation for over 100 years. The original elevator was constructed in 1915. It was powered by hydrolics and took about three minutes to reach the top of the bluff. In 1925 it was converted to electric power that was being generated by the water flowing from the Willamette river. The current elevator was completed in May of 1955. It was included on the National Register of Historic places in May of 2014. The elevator is owned by Oregon City and staffed by the Downtown Oregon City Association. Current hours are Monday-Saturday 7am-7pm and Sunday 10am-7pm.

Dusk is the perfect time to visit, the birds swirl and swirl down into one of the old warehouse chimneys it was as cool to watch.

This is an elevator that takes you from one street level to a lower one (and vice versa). It is odd only in that it is part of the street. What is good about it is that on the upper level you are near a...More

This free elevator trip takes you to the bluff overlooking Willamette Falls and Oregon City. You can see West Linn and also the old Blue Heron paper factory that is hopefully going to become an incredible residential area! Definitely worth the elevator trip to the...More

Best place to overlook Oregon City and the Willamette river. Also, it's a really short walk to downtown Oregon City.

A neat attraction in Oregon City. Tons of history in this part of town and with this elevator. Worth the ride to the top to see the Willamette.

Oregon City was established in 1829 by the Hudson's Bay Company. In 1844 it became the first U.S. city west of the Rocky Mountains to be incorporated. Many people don't know this but Oregon City has two "levels". The first level is located along the...More

Do take this elevator ride for the view and historic value! It's free too - it leads you up to the promenade and park - spectacular view of the Falls from the park.

We go here every few years to take a ride up and look around the viewing station at the top. There is also a long ramp to the side and the top of the bluff has a nice walking path.

The city hires an outside company to handle the staffing of the elevator. Call Oregon City City Hall and they can direct you to the current company who has the elevator contract.
